Note: Some of the tips below are only for FG^clan's old server- Was called: Hamburgerhill Now called: eXile Community server, Server contains Serverside-Mods (created by FG^$poiler) such as: relocated flags and respawns, added airfield towers (some floating in the sky), left-mouse Turbo boost on Jeeps and PBR Boats .....and loads of other tweaks (mostly to the advantage of USA team).
There are many tricks and tactics that have been left-out, some I have kept for myself (you can learn by watching or following me in-game), some I have limited practice with, such as Tanks, Planes and some of the Classes/Kits. Some I haven't got around to writing yet and then theres the Darkside tricks... in-game exploits that I've witnessed or discovered over the years, that I'll never teach (or use in-game) for fear of them being used against me or others. Also be aware that I add new information to this topic all the time (in old posts) ...So come back here from time to time and re-read, you might find something new and useful or that something incorrect has been changed. ![]()

Bobs Hints:1: How.to.use.tunnels.
(because lots of ppl ask) 1st: select Red team. 2nd: select the engineer kit with the shovel/spade. 3rd: look on the respawn map for white dots (respawn points) that are not next to flag icons, select that point and spawn on it.... once you spawn don't move! if you selected the correct point there should be a 'mud bump' with a square black hatch and a shovel/spade sticking out of it directly beneath your feet. 4th: while standing on-top of the tunnel press the pickup/drop-kit key 'G' (on default key bindings), you should hear a noise and the tunnel will have disappeared. 5th: find a suitable spot to place the tunnel, usually best hidden near the next flag you wish to capture or near the outside edges of the map (where the enemy team can't find it, under a bush is good). 6th: place the tunnel, cycle through your equipment and select the shovel/spade (if you can't select the shovel/spade then you probably haven't picked up the tunnel), with the spade selected press left-mouse button..... you will hear a quick digging sound and... a tunnel appears ![]() Notes: Tunnels can be spotted by Aircraft with Radar. when re-spawning on a tunnel its best to either go prone and crawl away or run like hell away from the tunnel before shooting towards any enemy (you don't want them to see you near the tunnel in-case it's discovered and destroyed). If you die while carrying a tunnel it will take a long time to respawn back at it original location - but... you can run back to where you were killed and find your kit on the floor (pick up with 'G' key) if you can select the shovel/spade then the tunnel is still okay. Tunnels work best on flat ground and have to be placed on mud, grass or sand (tunnels placed on concrete or in water or steep slopes will Explode). A damaged tunnel will start smoking before it explodes - it can be repaired with the wrench/spanner. The tunnel can be picked-up and moved with the 'G' key. Important Note: Tunnels only appear on certain Maps (unless customised) Maps with tunnels and number of tunnels on map: The La Drang valley x2 Landing-Zone Albany x3 Operation Hastings x1 Fall of Lang Vei x2 Operation Irving x2 Siege of Khe sahn x2 Ho Chi Minh Trail x1 Cambodian Incursion x2 Hope this helps ![]() Warning: There is a bug occasionally in the game when the tunnels don't show-up on the respawn map  it has happened to me many times but I don't know what causes it. Sometimes the tunnels appear after a few deaths and sometimes the only way to do it is to quit the server and rejoin. If anyone reading this knows about the bug, I'd really like to know more ![]() ![]() |

Bobs Hints:2: Artillery.ownage.
Need a minimum of two people working together, one engineer w/mortar and either a Sniper or Infantry w/binoculars. Mortar dude sets-up facing the target, then Binos-dude needs to get a good top-down view on the target with the binos, zoom in, then left click. For the next 60 secs Mortar dude (or any fixed or mobile artillery) can right click to get a remote camera view of the target, this allows you to see exactly where the shells are landing ![]() It also means the artillery can be out of sight (behind a hill or building or in a dip in the ground). This technique is called 'Indirect-Fire' and is rarely used in BFV so very few people seem to know about it : ) It also works with multiple artillery units, so you could have one spotter w/binos and any number of Mortar and artillery units sharing the same camera view. ....Or if there is more than one spotter - multiple remote-cameras can be cycled-through using the mouse-wheel while in indirect-fire view. Used properly Indirect-fire is one of the best features of BFV. Have a practice with it - you won't be dissapointed ![]() ![]() |

Bobs Hints:3: Team tactics.Slicks4kicks.
[This is easier with some type of Teamspeak - but not necessary] Need a minimum of 3 players (5 is better): 1 good pilot and 2 engineers (+2 Infantry) and a Huey slick Helicopter (the one without pilot weapons). The 2 Engineers need to be sat in the two open seats that allow access to the wrench/spanner and need to be constantly fixing the heli (its a sh*tty and boring job but the 2 Engineers are the most important), just left at that, with 3 guys it's possible to cap flags pretty fast..... With the addition of 2 M16/AK47 dudes (sorry, I'm a M60/RPD/LAW/RPG/Sniper Hater ![]() Plus, with 5 guys on-board the heli, flag-cap times are reduced to a few seconds ![]() With another 2 guys to fly Air-Support in the Huey Gunship - you have a winning formula for pure ownage Note: All this can be applied to the NVA's Hind-Slick as well but sacrifices the door-gunners, who instead have to sit on a plank of wood in the back of a slow moving heli with no windows: Red teams helicopters suck..... ![]() |

Bobs Hints:4: How.to.Nade-jump
[Warning: on other servers grenade-jumping may be considered an 'Exploit' and may get you kicked or banned - always read the server rules or ask when you join] ...however - on this HamburgerHill server I'd say Nade-jumping is an absolutely essential skill, if you want to get to some of the flag points by a different route or chase down an enemy who keeps sniping you from the rooftops. Nade-jumps are tricky at first but with a bit of practice easy to master. 1st: obviously you'll need to select a kit with grenades.... 2nd: find a flat bit of ground and face the direction you want to jump. 3rd: select grenade and drop at your feet by pressing the right-mouse button - the grenade will land in front of you and start rolling forwards.... 4th: take a couple of steps forward and drop into prone position on top of the nade, this is the tricky bit - even Pro's get it wrong (there is an element of luck involved). 5th: BOOM! one of three different things will happen next.... 1-you will successfully Nade-jump upwards. 2-you will have missed the nade slightly and be launched sideways across the ground or into a wall ...*SPLAT!* or... 3-you will decorate the landscape in reds and pinks as you explode (guess it wasn't your own grenade you landed on - oops). 6th: while in the air deploy your parachute ('9' default key, I think) and aim towards your intended landing spot. That's it, pretty simple really. Important Note: Always check before joining a server if Friendly-Fire is turned on/off (for obvious reasons) ![]() ![]() |

Bobs Hints:5: Heli control help.
If you're new to BFV or if you've always had trouble flying choppers - this advice is for you..... It may be something simple, like - if you are used to having your mouse Y - axis set to push up-mouse to look upwards (non-inverted)- all you need to do is go into Options/Controls, look down the side menu for AIR and select, then look on right-hand side of screen for where it says Mouse Setting/Invert mouse and uncheck the box. In default controls it is set to inverted (while all the other mouse settings are normal) this was done to make the plane controls more realistic. Personally I set all mouse settings to inverted. The following control setup will give you better flight-control in Helicopters [if you are already used to using the default controls - Then I don't recommend changing anything]: change roll left/right to keys left/right change rudder left/right to mouse left/right then on the bottom left of screen in AIR controls turn mouse sensitivity to maximum. [Note: in-game it's easier to fly using the Nose camera view] Then start an offline game or join an empty sever, (Operation_Hastings makes an excellent Heli training-ground)....and then practice.....and practice.........and then practice some more. hope this helps ![]() ![]() |

Bobs Hints:6: Flying Fortress.
This is just for fun - not really practical for Multiplayer, but a good laugh.... You'll need 2xPilots (1xWho doesn't mind doing very little), 1xHuey-Slick or Chinook, 1xRespawn-Boat, 1xHuey-G.ship or Cobra (for air defence and Taxi) and as many players of all kit types that you can fit on the boat. Pretty simple this one - just load the Respawn-boat up with as many players as you can, making sure all know not to drive the boat (any action in drivers-seat on any vehicle being air-lifted will disengage the cable). Then Air-lift the boat with the Slick or Chinook and climb to a decent altitude before gently heading towards enemy territory - with enough ppl on-board the boat you can rain-down a huge amount of firepower. ...and use 2nd Heli to carry players to and from the boat and help defend against aerial attack (or Air-lift an APC on to the boats Heli-pad so ppl up there have Health and Ammo). Party in the Sky! ![]()

Bobs Hints:7: Team tactics [city maps].Sweep + Clear.
Sometimes the most simple tactics are the most effective ![]() The only hard part to this is getting the team to follow the plan :p Start at first spawn and get as many of your team to follow you (get 2 or 3 to stay behind and defend the main), then move out to the nearest flag (keeping everyone together) and attack, after flag is capped 1 or 2 of the team stay and defend that flag for the rest of the round (always spawning at the same flag) while the rest of the team attacks the next flag then leaves 1 or 2 behind....and repeat until victorious. ![]() |

Bobs Hints:8: Team tactics [Red Team].Castle in the sky.
[NOTE: THIS HINT IS ONLY FOR HamburgerHill SERVER] Another short one, want to own the floating towers? Simple: Use a Huey or Chinook to Air-lift the Blue teams re-spawn crate and put it down (carefully) somewhere awkward (I'll leave it to your imaginations where) [Make ![]() ...Now red team can hold the floating towers without worrying that the pesky blue team will spawn right next to you ![]() ![]() |

Bobs Hints:9: Advanced.Nade-jumping.
If you have got the hang of nade-jumping to high places and want to travel in-style.... By landing in-front of your grenade you can launch yourself (like superman) across to buildings or hills that are slightly lower than your position, which is a little quicker than just doing a normal nade-jump and then having to parachute back down. Also: PBR boats and the respawn boat make excellent platforms for nade-jumping on to bridges or over walls. on the respawn boat just use the helipad, on the PBR there is a flat bit just behind the drivers cabin (in-between the cab and the mounted M60), if you stand on one side of the boat (with your back to the water) and right click a grenade, there's just enough room to run to other side of boat and go-prone. Right-clicking to drop a nade at your feet can be handy when being chased, just run around a corner, drop nade and keep running ....if timed right your enemy probably won't see it until it's too late BOOOM! ![]() |
