Bots will not hold position, if I box them up somewhere they teleport away and come back to tell me they have my back.
The bots are a fricken nuisance! There are so many good maps on this server that are ruined cause of the bots, you tell me they are necessary... why? Edit: Sorry was venting my anger on forum again. ![]()

In simplest terms, the server becomes much more difficult than intended when there is only one player and no bots. The monster/player ratio is thrown out of whack - invasion was coded for a minimum of 4 players. So you get 4 player's worth of monsters, all targeting one person. While a high level engineer should be able to handle it long enough to set up a base, a newbie has no chance at all, and high level players of other classes will have problems.
Bots also provide support, while high level players might not need it, it's very important for new players. They do shield and heal blasts, and put down defense sentinels. They also are targets to heal, or use AM abilites on. Most importantly, bots provide additional targets for monsters - in fact, monster AI prioritizes hitting higher level players when there are two players in range, making it easier for newbies. Until recently they provided an important benefit to high level players - the "adaptive difficulty" setting that increased monster damage reduction wouldn't kick in until bots were dead, since they were all set to levels between 60 and 120. So yeah, I could take out bots, but if I did, it would massively screw up the balance of the server, and make it less likely that we would retain new players, because they would not have a good experience if high level players were not on. As for bot orders, they use the same path network as the monsters. If monsters don't spawn where you want them to hold, they won't stay there reliably. You can order them to hold position anywhere they happen to be, but if there isn't a nearby path node, the bots can't find their way back to where they were told to hold position if they chase after a monster, or they will be teleported away by the anti-camper mutator for being out of bounds. When that happens the bots go back to their default behavior of "I got your back."

There are times I wish it were only the 3 bots and myself to deal with, but it's getting that way I dread when [EDIT: don't drag names into this.] somebody comes on and does multiple reconnects resulting in up to a dozen bots running around. ![]()

You know treolar, it would be nice if at least sometimes your posts weren't complaints.

Treloar,
Perhaps you need to seek out another server to play on since you do not seem happy with ours. Orson Welles |

Criticism is good, is a step towards development. Leave Treloar to complain, maybe he has good ideas and good remarks. My opinion...

There's a difference between criticism and complaining. Complaining is talking about something you don't like. More often than not it it very negative and usually comes off as whiny and irritating.
For example: Your broccoli is gross. I just don't like it at all. If instead of stating you don't like something in the broadest terms possible, you identify a specific problem and offer a potential solution, you are engaging in constructive criticism. For example: The broccoli we had last night was a bit bland. I think instead of boiling it, if you added some herbs and cooked it in butter, it would turn out much better. If you'd like, I can show you my recipe. See the difference? The first statement is very negative and would start an argument. The person might feel like they have to defend their cooking. The second one addresses the same problem, but is more respectful and offers a potential solution. Good criticism requires you to think about *why* something is the way it is. Maybe the cook is inexperienced? Doesn't have the required ingredients or enough time to make something more elaborate? They have special dietary requirements? Maybe they just really like it that way? Good criticism starts a conversation, asks questions and explores potential solutions. It could still lead to an argument (be very careful if you try that with your SO ![]() Whining and complaining is not welcome here, but constructive criticism very much is.

OK, I understand, you are right. Anyway Jefe, how do you have time to do all this ? (manage the server, post here, on UTzone, Epic Games forums, etc., repair maps and all these things for UT2004...)
