DefSent Ability Cost (linear vs. progressive)

As a still low-level general (or engineer even) the cost progression for the DefSent abilities is rather steep. 10 points for each level (max 5 for non-spec'd general) and there are 3 available, so that's potentially 150 points.

I'm sure there was a good reason behind the flat cost, but would a progression be reasonable to consider? Say, 2,4,6,8,10? I'm only basing this on the cost/benefit ratio of the first level (1 ammo/armor/adren per second for 10 skill points)

If anyone else has already looked at it and determined this is the best way to balance it, then I'm OK with it - just wanted to ask

(I did a search but couldn't find anything on the topic, so I hope it isn't a duplicate)

Hi Spike, thanks for directing your suggestion to the forum. I'll get back to you soon with a cost comparison across classes. I want to know for myself too how much things cost, but aside from Loaded Healing and a few small abilities, I haven't changed the cost structure of anything from the original DC set up.

Hey Spike, sorry for the late reply.

Getting the costs for all the classes was a bit more tedious than I thought. Here's the breakdown, all pre-subclass costs. Base abilities like retaliation, power jump, quickfoot, etc. are not included.

WM: 813 (around level 116)
AM: 396 (level 56)
MM: 690 (level 98)
ENG: 771 (level 110)
GEN: 655 (level 94)

Turns out Generals are the second-least expensive You are right though that the def sent abilities are the most expensive for Generals. 50 a piece for Defsent adren and Defsent resupply, 80 for Defsent armor healing. The only thing more expensive than the adren and resupply is Regeneration at 60.

I would say, treat the Defsent abilities like a luxury and supplement. Get 1-2 levels of each but then hold off after that and focus on your other abilities. If you're the only person playing like an Engi, your def sents will probably be busy 90% of the time stopping the projectiles. The Defsent abilities will only be really beneficial during down time or if you're with other Engis.

Thanks Hollon for looking into this. You are correct, the Defsent shouldn't be a primary ability for a Gen, and that makes the cost much more understandable. Thanks!
