Auto Engineer purpose?

Main feature is to use sentinels which fire wherever you're aiming at?
Woudn't it then be manual? since i have a hard time imagining auto engineer class in wave 13 casually placing a turret and aim with it, since it's the main feature of that class.
Since that is the case why does auto engineer get a variety of vehicles to use? if the aim feature is the core of it woudn't it make more sense if they auto engineer could place turrets that have the same feature?

example auto engineer places assault sentinel and stinger turret, then proceeds to aim somewhere and both of the defensive structures hit that target?

might just be something i'm missing from the description of the sub class so any help regarding this would be great.

"Auto" is a misnomer. The name comes from the Autogun sentinel, which was the first sentinel that targeted at whatever monster the player was looking at. Maybe renaming the auto sentinels to remote sentinels will help, so Remote Sentinel, Remote Assault, etc.

Auto engineers get more vehicles because they are mobility based, and vehicles can be a bit better suited with the auto sentinels than turrets can. Imagine a large, open map. If you set up an auto sentinel next to your turret, and you target a monster with your turret at the very opposite end of the map, your auto sentinel will not detect it because the distance from you(inside the turret) to the monster is too far.

Now, if you're in a vehicle and you're roaming the map, and if you target the monster with the vehicle, your auto sentinel will more likely target it because the distance between you(inside the vehicle) and the monster will probably be shorter... since you're roaming and you can easily move the vehicle closer.

In a small, standard map, using either the turret or vehicle in combination with the auto sentinel would work. Note though that aiming with a turret/vehicle may not always trigger the auto sentinel to work, since vehicle aiming acts a little differently than first-person aiming, so it may be trickier to target smaller monsters.

I hope this answers your question. I know Auto Engineers are a bit less preferable than Base Builders now, and I do plan on doing more with them later on.

so if i got this correctly:

Auto engineers get vehicle variety for mobility to travel large maps faster and setup their "auto" (remote) turrets.

Now you did mention

so i'm thinking of "auto" sentinels on top of the vehicle while you skedaddle around in your car? in large or open maps.

Yes, they get some turrets, but that is not their main focus. It should be vehicles.

Mounting sentinels on top of vehicles would be more appropriate for drones which already automatically follow you around. Now drones automatically shoot at targets, unlike remote sentinels. We can change the targeting for drones if we think they would work better with remote targeting. I've also had ideas for adding in different types of drones with different attacks.

Another idea I've had in mind for Remote Engineers (and I think this actually may be a better name) are remote vehicles -- remotely controlling a vehicle without actually being inside. It keeps the mobility aspect of the subclass but also the camping in a base aspect of the overall Engineer class, assuming players will remotely control vehicles from inside bases. This probably won't be a project until 208 comes around though.

Auto engineers main focus should be vehicles? instead of " The main feature of this subclass are the Auto sentinels " ??

Both. Descriptions don't have to be taken literally.
