My uncle thinks he can drive fine after a few beers because he "knows how to handle himself." Says coffee and a cold shower do the trick. I keep telling him that's not how it works but he doesn't listen. Any facts I can share with him?

My dad used to think the same way. Those old myths about sobering up are dangerous. Cold showers, coffee, exercise - none of that actually lowers blood alcohol. Might make you feel more alert but you're still impaired. Maybe show him some videos about reaction time tests with drinking?

This article from https://unitedrecoveryproject.com/rehab-blog/how-to-sober-up-quickly/ might help convince him. It explains the science behind alcohol processing and debunks those common myths. I printed something similar for my brother who had the same attitude. The hard truth is nothing speeds up alcohol metabolism - only time works. Each drink takes about an hour to process, and no tricks change that. Maybe offer to be his designated driver or get him rideshare gift cards? Sometimes practical solutions work better than arguments
