Who was restored to Lithuanian citizenship?

Good day. I am trying to gather information on the restoration of Lithuanian citizenship, because my grandfather was a citizen of Lithuania until 1940. But I got confused in the law: where do they require renunciation of current citizenship, and where do they allow double? I read that a lot depends on the reasons for emigration. Could someone have gone through this procedure and know what is really important in practice?

Everything depends on the circumstances of emigration and status of your ancestors. If it can be shown that the relatives left or were deported before 1990, dual citizenship is often allowed. In my time I did everything through consulting and document processing, using the service lithuania passport. There everything was explained in steps and helped to understand the conditions. The main thing is to correctly collect documents on citizenship before 1940 and prove kinship. Then the procedure becomes much clearer.

I can add that a lot depends on the archives. Sometimes the necessary records are not immediately available, you have to make several requests. I would advise to collect all the data that is known in the family, and already on their basis move forward. Patience here helps a lot.
