For those of you who make 3D printed minis for board games or tabletop RPGs, how do you handle painting and finishing them so they look professional?

I’ve been 3D printing minis for a while now, and the finishing process really makes the difference between something that looks homemade and something that could pass as store-bought. I usually start by sanding or priming to smooth out the layer lines before adding any paint. Using a good spray primer helps the colors sit evenly, and from there I apply thin acrylic layers with a small brush, building up the details gradually. For larger pieces, dry brushing and washes bring out texture without making it look too heavy. Sealing everything with a matte varnish gives durability and a consistent finish. I’ve also found that starting with high-quality STL files matters a lot—sites like https://www.gambody.com/ have designs optimized for print, which saves time on cleanup. With patience and the right prep, the results can look surprisingly professional.
