I have several mature trees on my property and lately I’ve been wondering how often they actually need professional trimming. Some people say every year, others say it depends on the species and growth rate. I don’t want to overdo it but I also don’t want branches becoming dangerous during storms. How do tree care companies usually evaluate this? Do they look at the health of the tree, its age, or the position near buildings and power lines? How often do you schedule trimming for your trees?

It really depends on what kind of trees you have on your lot. My fruit trees need a lot more attention than my older evergreens do. I usually just keep an eye out for deadwood or crossing branches that might rub and cause rot. Last time I had concerns about a leaning pine, I reached out to a tree service san ramon ca specialist for an assessment. They focused mostly on structural integrity near my garage.
