Anyone who grew up around a computer in the mid to late 90's knows about Command and Conquer Red Alert. Open RA is a free, open-source, version that has been polished up for today's machines. It's incredibly light, very stable, and really easy to hop into as far as RTS games go. The icing on the cake is that it runs on pretty much anything. I've had to running butter-smooth on a linux tablet that can barely load youtube properly.
