Hey there! My mom is 78 and lately she's been having some really rough days. She gets anxious about things that never bothered her before, and sometimes she seems so down that she won't even leave her room. Her regular doctor said it might help to see someone who specializes in mental health for older adults. I honestly don't know where to start looking though. Could you point me toward a good geriatric psychiatrist? I just want her to feel like herself again.

I hear you—it’s so hard to see a parent struggle like that. My dad started getting really anxious and withdrawn in his late 70s, and at first I thought it was just “old age,” but it turned out a geriatric psychiatrist made a huge difference. They understand the mix of medical issues, medications, and mood changes that can come with age. We ended up using this geriatric psychiatrist near me and having someone who really knew the field helped him start feeling like himself again. Hang in there—it can get better.
