To whom it may concern,
Please read in its entirety. I played on your server the other day. It is not the first time I have played on your server, but it has been quite some time since I have. I usually play on a server where I am also an admin, as well as other servers when no one is playing on my usual. I enjoy your server as it is very good, however, on this recent visit, I was accused of Quick Switching. I, as an admin, do not allow that on my usual site, and will not do that on any other site. It soon became obvious that the admin who accused me had no idea what a “Quick Switch” actually is and why it is not allowed on most servers. That admin stated that “Quick Switching” is hitting the Q really fast twice. Not so. While QQ is one of the tools the “Quick Switch” uses, “Quick Switching”, is a “Script” that is “bound” to a command, (or key), that is not usually detected by VAC. In previous versions of Counter-Strike, simple quick-switching did have an advantage, but without additional script, the current CS version lacks the re-chamber “Fire Ready” ability. I am sure that the “Quick Switch Script” is not limited to Steam games, however, it first appeared in Steam games in CS which is riddled with various “scripts” that are hard to detect. Gee, big surprise there, and exactly why I do not play CS. In our current world, the “Quick Switch Script” is a script “cheat” that will “Re-Chamber” a round “ready to fire” in the weapon you are using, bypassing the re-chamber delay, (in DOD the K98 is pretty much the only one it works with, pretty useless with other weapons on DOD). With binding it to the Q key, one can re-chamber a round in a ready to fire state saving almost a second between shots. And that is how you can tell. A K98 that is racking up 2,3 or more kills with no time for the bolt action is a tell-tail sign which then needs to be spectated to verify. On the contrary, setting up the weapons one wants to use after respawn so that he can utilize the Q to switch between, (Sniper to pistol, Thompson to Grenade, etc.), is not “Quick-Switching”. (Some of us with arthritis do not like to use the numbers) The other option, (for those of us with arthritis), is the mouse scroll, (which will change weapons very quickly, but is more of a search than a switch). Right after respawn, I can “scroll” to my secondary, then press 1 to get back to my primary, then hit Q to change when needed, (run out of ammo and still need to defend, or just toss a ‘nade). That is NOT a “Quick Switch”. Using the Q key quickly twice without a script will re-chamber a round only on the K98, but will not be “Fire Ready” until the “Re-Chamber” time is achieved which would be a hinderance rather than a help. (In other words, without the “script”, QQ would delay the re-chamber, which would add more time between shots.) The conversation after the initial accusation, from younger players, was not a positive one. My concern is this; 1. These younger players who are wanting to play this “newly found” old game are finding it pretty fun to play, however, discouragement from “old” players will indeed chase them away. I, for one, have been playing this since it first came out and would like to play this game for some time to come, but if we chase them away, this game will dwindle to nothing. 2. Admins, even from other sites, should not be calling out, belittling, berating, or treat in any other unfriendly manor, other admins. This is now, and always has been, something to not do. We need to support each other, no matter what site we are on, however, we need to support each other with respect to all players. As you can see, I did not mention any names, nor will I because of concern #2. I hope this is used as a tool, not as a weapon. I certainly enjoy your server, though I do not play here often, I am looking forward to it again. And am hoping that we can all support each other as admins no matter what site any of us is playing on. |
