In fact, nations that legalize drugs find that the usage goes down by huge margins, especially in youth. Obviously, prohibition creates a black market too. It funds criminal enterprises and creates a dingy underground that is dangerous to be apart of. Prosecuting people for drug related offenses also indirectly punishes everyone in their lives in a huge rippling effect. Children without one of their parents get sent to the worst schools and live in the worst areas thanks to the diminished earning power of their family. Those children have a higher chance to have failing grades, drop out of school and the vicious cycle continues; perpetuating the economic decay of our society. Not to mention that pot is virtually harmless. Compared to alcohol, it's a no brainer. You can't overdose on pot and the only health related issues that can come of it's use are associated with the process of smoking, and can be eliminated by consuming it or using a vaporizer. Understanding how and why they banned recreational pot usage in the first place will help you realize which side of the issue you're on. The original ban came right after prohibition ended. The country fought for the right to drink alcohol and won. The Mexican immigrants flooding into the country brought pot as their drug of choice. The government demonized pot by wrapping it in anti-Mexican rhetoric and labelled it "Marijuana", Mexican slang for pot. It didn't take long to ban it for no reason after a successful campaign that contained no substance or facts...only racism. It was exactly what they did to demonize opiates and oriental immigrants. The idea in both cases was to segregate races. A foundation of ignorance and hate. ![]() |

I myself have smoked for 25+ years and have very often regretted doing so, as much as I have and still do enjoy it. I guess I'm saying that there are reasons to start, but social conformity is not one of them. I started because many of my friends did, and it just seemed natural that I did too. That's not blaming them, that's just the situation... I have to say I like what you said there impos... I live in Michigan, one of the 'on the fence' states. Here you can go to a sham doctor and pay them like $200 for your 'exam'. Then he fills out your medical marijuana license paperwork. You then get to go to the state and put your name on a list of self admitted offenders (who plan to continue) and give them your personal info and address. Oh yeah, you have to give them $100 for the card. Every year. When I was a kid buying on the streets we always wished something like this would happen. Now, after it has happened I've noticed a few things. First, the pot sucks now, by and large. Every moron with a closet and a light bulb claims to be growing '_insert your ridiculous fruity name here_' for some equally ridiculous price like $20 a gram... And it's being done by a lot of morons and being done half-assed at that. Meaning it's no better, maybe tastier, than the commercial Mexican or w/e that everyone could get for about 1/5 the price, and now it's actually harder to find the commercial stuff I hear (my garden supplies me). Another thing I've noticed is how the government is making money from marijuana. A lot of it. Not spending countless millions to fight it, but making money regulating it. They are licensing individuals yearly as users and suppliers (caretakers/givers), and still locking up some (but not as many=lower tax burden of jailed potheads, more for other things). They also now are sending inspectors of some sort around to check peoples grow facilities (which have to meet certain criteria), and fining for infractions etc. I think I'd rather have it flat out illegal again myself, at least then the 'green' was almost always what you expected it to be, and the 'brown' was everywhere if you wanted it. ![]() |
