Yup. That's the map.
I get about 1.2mb download at fastest and, I think, 256k up. But back in the Q3 days it was never higher than 512 down, and US servers chewed that down to more like 5.12k, so life was a bit slow back then. Being in a rural part of the country means we don't see the 30 to 100mbs connections - not enough people to warrant spending the money to improve the infrastructure (this from a nation whose stated intention is to have the best broadband coverage in the world - but they're only ever bothered about the south-east corner of England and leave the rest of the nation struggling on old inefficient 1950s telecom wiring). . Padspace, Padcenter, and the cartoon looking one... seem to have left both my 1.16n & 1.32 installs and back up files. When you get a second, could you throw those on the FTP for me?... thanks Fry ![]() |

At first I couldn't remember how to bind the hook. Then I was getting the spacing wrong. Finally I got it.
A good 25 years have passed since I worked as a ring-spinner in a cotton mill. I have no doubt that if I was now faced with a ring-spinning frame and jumped right in, thinking I could just pick it all up again like riding a bike, I'd almost certainly lose a finger or two in the first few minutes. So what, I wonder, made me think I could spawn into a Q3 server and continue where I left off all those years ago? Admitted I won my first game. But it was Q3DM12 with bots for most of the time, and a camper who favoured the exit for the BFG room teleporter (the most used camper nest in any map, I think) for a few minutes. But it was bloody hard work. And I found out I'm pretty useless. I bump into walls, fall into lava and get my ass shot off way too much. Beryllium? Was that its name? The thing that makes my hook let go at the most inconvenient moments. I hook to a spot, turn to get a bead on my next destination - and find I'm falling. That's usually okay if there's a floor down there to arrest the fall. Space maps are no fun at all - I think I'm developing some sort of depth-phobia. I go in now and again for a bit of practise. But while I'm hooking around and trying to speed up my turning, and rediscovering my way around places, I keep getting interrupted by rude bots shooting at me. And they seem to be a lot better at it than I remember. I suppose that makes sense - I've spent years dulling any edges I might once have had, and they've spent those same years in constant practise. I'm surprised I managed to hit anything at all. No doubt having the hook is the advantage over them that allowed me to win. . hahaha that is what we all encounterd when we went online after all those years. For me the most frustrated was that my reaction reflex is much slower that a few years back. We all have to accept the fact that we are getting older. To compensate this a little bit I stared to rail without a hook. Good for you focus and aiming. Also it improves your movement skills.
To bad i wasn't able to get online today to join you. Hopefully soon. Please let me know what time you can be online. Normaly I get online around 22:00. Greetz *[CBC]NeRd |
