Hello
I ran across a couple of players yesterday who were incredibly good : - Game after game they were at the top of the ranking, having up to a 1 death to 4 kills ratio -they had up to twice the number of kills of player #3 or #4 - their tactic was to hide, wait until a player came nearby, slide into action and while moving kill every time within a second (really 1 second, not 2) - the only way I managed killing them was to shoot at them while they were shooting somebody else down. - I just checked the profile of such a player and I wasn't really impressed (8.8 pts / minute, plays on tens of servers) Am I right to be suspicious ? Or should I train and strive to become as good as them ????? Best regards, Patrice

I think these are players of average ratios. They may just be campers which isn't a cheat. Camping the spawns isn't allowed on our server. Players have different playing styles. Some are campers, snipers, flag whores (like TypeX), run and gunners, and the borderline spawn killers. Some are more defensive and others tend to be offensive players, while some play the TDM style while never caring about the objective of the TotalWar game type.
Cheaters can have ratios of 20 and above. But so can really good players. I never judge a player's skill by their ratio/score but their contribution to the team. We should remember that it's only a game and have fun while we play. There will always be players who want an advantage and will use cheats to have fun. Those players don't enjoy the game and usually lack skill and employ hacks. Those are the players that ruin the game for others and is the reason good admins keep servers a fun place to play. Cheaters are usually easy to spot. Other players will call them out. But be careful, some players are very good and will get accused of hacking. That's when the admins have to take time from their game and spec them and decide if they truly are using hacks. DDD has some exceptionally good players and have been called hacks. Those players now use rifles, shotguns or pistols and will not use MGs so the average players can enjoy playing on our servers. You have a right to be suspicious. When you have a doubt, please report their names (correctly spelled) on the forums or to an admin on vent. With time, I'm sure you will be as good or better. But remember my little Grass_hopper, be patient and have fun. As to the subject name of this thread: "difference between skill and cheat". The negative effects (on a server) are the same when the exceptionally good players play (only)to kill with total disregard for the objective. Just a little food for thought. ![]()

thanks for the indication.
And before giving names, especially on a forum, I needed to have some feedback. I know that some players are really good.... regards Patrice

its like that on many servers.......theres no freakin way people can be THAT good without something up there sleeve.....when a tdm player can go 70 kills and 3 deaths? Or in a WAR game have 40-50 kills and 8 or 9 deaths? sorry not buying it......Ive played on CAL teams TWL teams.....when its a level playing feild things are different.....when in a regular game server ..there are hundreds of exploits cheaters use to dominate and feel good about themselves.....sad reality of gaming......

geronimo wrote: ![]() Seriously though I wouldn't use ppm as a guide. People who spectate a lot like admins or snipers will have low ppm scores but could go on the occaisonal smg rampage and legitimately clean up because they are experienced players. Geronimo's ppm is like 0.05, he doesn't suck quite that bad though... ![]() |

theuglyamerican wrote: Well that's exactely what I saw. About 70 kills for 18 deaths, when then next best players barely reached 40 kills for 25-30 deaths. Now look at the profile of such a "skilled" player: ***edited by patrice *** and compare it with this other skilled player's profile : ***edited by patrice*** Would you believe the 1st player to be as good as (or even better then) the 2nd one ? Regards Patrice

The first player (promise) has a spm of 8.8. Not a good indicator of someone using hacks unless he spends a lot of time in spectate. It isn't uncommon for an experienced camper to have a kill to death ratio of 4:1, but that is the exception. It's hard to maintain a kill to death ratio of even 3:1
The second player (Kampfkrapfen) has a spm of 18.2 Promise is probably a camper. But maybe one to watch. By his profile I see he's playing a lot of fps and has extensive experience in these games. Kampfkrapfen is a run and gun player. He will get more kills and die more for his efforts. He's also known for getting over 100 kills on certain maps. Scores (usually) are not a good indicator of someone using hacks. What I have found to be a good indicator are the other players on the server. They will quickly call out a hacker. Just let an admin know when you see him on the server and they will spec him. This type of thread should be continued in the Members section of the forums. ![]()
