Atamaca 24/7 The uncap situation...

Hello everyone, I recently joined DDD seeking good teamplay and also a chance to help rid my favorite server (Chopper server) of all of the clowns that ran rampant there. After ascending to an admin over the server I, along with others, have run into a problem regarding the uncap or main base for either team.

Now marking it (as a rule) off limits is simply out of the question, the current state of the server (relatively rule-less) is most of what draws the masses to it along with a good map and I'd like to think, decent adminship. After debating the subject over vent quite a bit, Willi and I settled on this: Attacking the uncap is permitted but "Habitual" attackers will be kicked/banned. After putting that rule into effect via the server messages, it (as far as I can tell) cleared up some of the confusion but in some cases only worsened it (some players thinking base rape is not permitted, period). After playing there for as long as I have I came up with a better version of the rule: ("Camping" the uncap will result in a kick/ban) of course a warning is in store in every case... There are other versions of this I have chewed over in my head but I come here now to get the general consensus from others, which should be what dictates the final rule.

The server (from what I have witnessed) cannot be left rule-less. If left to do whatever one pleased on it, people would leave in frustration not because they are getting killed, but because they do not have a chance due to a tank that is camping them as they spawn, or player(s) darting the chopper before it takes off...

In the end I honestly think that the rule as it stands is the best one, as it reads in-game:

Server: "Camping" the uncap will result in a kick/ban!

As the rule stands, it allows for uncap attacks,

but...

the moment someone decides oh, these are easy points, let me sit here and forget about the whole purpose of this map (Conquest) and get easy kills and not worry about helping my teammates cap the objectives to "win" the round, they get a warning, then depending on the response to that warning a kick,temp-ban, or Perma ban.

The above example is something I have seen all to often. This game is not MW2, selfishness, though however much I may dislike it, is part of the new "mentality" brought in due to games like MW2, (to quote Willi).

I know that one must be able to defend their uncap or else they deserve to die, and I agree with this. But when Johndoe breaks for the enemy uncap at the start of every round in a quad or car which a player who sought to actually play the round as the map and game mode was designed (that is go and cap A,B,or C), is left transport-less.

Anyways this post is larger than needed but I wanted to cover all the bases. Please post YOUR personal opinion on the matter. This goes for all conquest servers, not just the chopper or Atacama server. Lets hear it...

I have seen other servers if you kill more then 2 players while there spawning in at main it's spawn killing & 3 day ban.
Entering main to steal tanks,ATV,jeeps, & choppers is fine but no killing on the way out of there main.
I have been spawn killed on this server up to 8 times in a row then I went to another server.

Sorry to hear that ^ also that is an interesting idea for a rule to implement. I was expecting a lot more response to this. Even if you do not play this server, post your thoughts...

If players are allowed to steal enemy vehicles, they should also be allowed to defend themselves on the way out. Each base provides equal vehicles, AA, land mines, C4 and stationary ATMs to protect their bases. EA could have made these bases "Off Limits" but they didn't.
They game allows players to spawn on team mates (away from the uncap) but if all the flags are capped by the enemy, that team is already doomed.
The players that team kill, destroy/sabotage their own vehicles, and hinder their team will not be kicked. They will just be banned.
This server ran stock and was ranked #2 in the world. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
This is a game of WAR!

i agree willi. it is war and in war there is sabotage. this pansying about keeping out of the uncap is not how to play a war game. i have kept quiet on the matter so far as I have not been playing for the reasons you know. i will not ban a player or kick if he is in the uncap doing sabotage, but spawn killing is a different matter. If we start placing an abundance of rules specific to our server such as this we will lose players to other servers and there are many out there. Also it needs to be made clear that any member who has admin rights should not be having conversations with offending players outside of the console as this dilutes the authority they have, all warnings questions or replies should not be made through yell. I have seen it before the kick/ban option is used too quickly and players are not encouraged to change their mode of play. Don't get me wrong, I know there are people who will just ignore the warnings.
with this new console we will have more control, but I would suggest a measure of pragmatism in using it
