I often face criticism from people who dislike my pirate 🏴☠️ approach, which means that I believe culture should be freely available to everyone. They usually make the argument that musicians, composers and other artists should be paid for their work. They compare it to food being a human right and ask if I also think food should be free.
Are they kidding or not? 🤣 My response to these arguments is usually that the view on this is outdated and no longer relevant in today's digital society. I liken it to how the church and clergy printed books in the 15th and 1660s and predicted that clergy would become poorer as books became more available. Similarly, it was said that writers would become poorer when libraries became common, but that turned out not to be true. I emphasize that my view that culture should be free and accessible to all is much bigger than the critics think. It is about democracy and openness. Why should knowledge be locked up? The Internet acts as a library for the citizen, and everyone should have the opportunity to share knowledge and learn in today's digital society. Through the use of Creative Commons and the GNU General Public License, no one owns the work, only the creator himself. It's part of the open source spirit. 📝😉" |
