December 3, 2009
Over the next two months, starting in mid-December and continuing into January, there is going to be a large amount of changes and even a few activities in the clan. Starting in September, I had a goal to reform the |DOS| clan into a larger clan, capable of holding their own in a clan match and even supporting multiple games. Since that time the clan has increased from roughly five active members to sixteen active members. This is quite amazing and I am quite pleased with our progress. I hope to continue this trend over the next few months with heavy recruitment in December and January.

Clan Donations are also at a higher level than in previous years past. As we get more members I hope to see donations steadily increase, not necessarily in dollar amount, but in the number of donations from different people. As a clan I feel that we are offering a lot to our members. We currently have two Call of Duty servers, a Killing Floor server, and a Teamspeak. If you have not donated yet, I would encourage you to give, even if it is only a few dollars. These donations will help us to move forward with new ideas and support new games as they come available.

The development of an improved website is one of the new ideas maintaining our focus. For lack of a better name, it will be dubbed as Project Fubar. Project Fubar is going to be a movement of our website from HTML 4 to Ruby on Rails. Ruby will allow us to integrate the forums into the website, allowing for persistent login on the entire site. This will bring about many new features for members and allow for simplification of many tasks that are currently done manually on the website. The larger goal of Project Fubar is to help form a stronger community within the clan. We are going to strive to be one of the best clan gaming sites on the internet with a clean design and an excellent layout. Look forward to more information on Project Fubar in the next few weeks. However, this is not the only plan for December!

The Teamspeak 3 Beta is due to arrive in December as well. We will begin testing it as soon as classes have completed. The beta server will be ran by |DOS|Raines from his home connection. This will allow us to determine effectiveness of the service and if we want to move in that direction. Should we like Teamspeak 3, we will migrate to it, either when it comes out of beta or in January. Hopefully the latency will be improved over Teamspeak 2 and upgrading will be the best option.

Team Warfare matches started earlier than expected. Originally it was planned for matches to start in mid-December. Despite this change, we will be continuing our matches in TWL over the next few months. I am aware that there are several |DOS| members that do not currently have Call of Duty: World at War, but plan to have it in the next few weeks. Once you have Call of Duty: World at War, please register under the |DOS| Clan at the Team Warfare website, this will allow you to play in TWL matches.

Lastly, we will be having an event involving the game |DOS| started with. Several years ago a snowball mod was released for Medal of Honor Spearhead, for a while we were having a yearly snowball fight. I feel that we should return to this and have another snowball fight. The Spearhead server will be run on the same box as the Teamspeak 3 Beta server. I will be preparing the server files and a slightly modified version of the snowball mod before Christmas. I will assist those who do not have a copy of the game, contact me for more information about this. To that end I say, Happy Snowballin', December is gonna be one hell of a ride!
