Well, the way I see it is if you want to overpay for a cool looking computer that all your college professors and fellow dorm residents will expect you to use, get a Mac. But if you're pragmatic and want the best value for your money, get a PC.

I have noticed that for some strange reason, here in the States, a lot of schools use Macs as well, leaving the person who learned how to use a 'computer' ill equipped to deal with the vast majority of real world situations where, of course, they use PC's. Sometimes they get lucky , probably something like 1 in 10 times, and find a situation where a Mac is used as the 'computer'. Lately I have seen many more students being taught PC skills in school, but there are a scary number of them that still are forced to learn a Mac.
I have read that about 8 or 10% of the computers out there are Mac, so I wonder how many of those are used in Educational Institutions? A few schools with a few hundred macs could really make that number look bigger than it really is, since that's a couple hundred machines in one place rather than in the hands of individuals like us. The same could also be said of places that use banks of PCs, but many of those types of places also use Linux, Unix, etc, and since PC's make up such a vast percentage of the market, I don't think the numbers are quite as skewed. Interestingly enough, I believe I have also heard about other groups, aside from Mac users, that have the same numbers (about 10% of the population). These groups are the mentally impaired and homosexuals...I'm just pointing this out, please don't take offense. ![]() |

My daughter said all her college friends prefer macs because macs are a status symbol on campus. And do you know what they do when they get their overpriced laptops?
Facebook, youtube and itunes. That sure is an expensive autio/video player. |
