When do people learn when to use JPG and when to use PNG on the web?
JPG works great with pictures that display random things, that means all kind of real life and videogame content. It may has some loss in quality but excellent compression. PNG uses first some filters, then the Lempel-Ziv-Welch algorithm (dictionary-like system) and then saves the difference between two colour values runlength-encoded in a bitmap. Runlength Encoding means, that it works best if you have many consecutive pixels that have EXACTLY the same colour value (or in this case exactly the same colour difference to the next pixel). Then it uses two bytes, the first says how often the colour value that is represented by the second byte is repeated. So you have two bytes for a pixel all the time and it pays out from the moment where you have two consecutive identical pixels. But that is usually not the case in random images like screenshots, only in comics and simple drawings where you have a constant background colour, etc. Otherwise PNG may need twice as much space as other non-runlength-encoded formats. So please use JPG for random pictures and PNG for artificial images. Will decrease the download time a lot. ![]() |

Sure, why not even set up a teleporter in the map that will teleport players to this map on our server.
No kidding, that's possible, but it probably won't work if our server isn't playing that map when someone tries to teleport in from another server. EDIT: And that's a bad site to upload files. Always takes me a minute to find the download button. They couldn't make it even smaller. EDIT2: And I can't find the file for WGSVortex3… now I probably need to extract it from my cache… -.- ![]()
