Let's check the auto messages, that randomly appear every 3 minutes in the game. Do you have any tips for some new or to change the current?

Remember: You can respawn on Nodes your Team controls
Airstrike-planes (as well as their bombs) can be shot down (pretty sure I've already seen sth. like this but I couldn't find it in you summary) ![]() |

The second tip is probably already displayed in loading screens. What about some something like 'In passenger seat in Cicada you can fire flares to avoid guided missiles'?

nice idea! just shorter.... like this:
As Cicada-Passenger, press alt-fire to use flares. In Goliath, PPC-Tank or Minotaur, don't shoot too close in front of you - unless you are a Kamikaze. (although most of us know this, we also know these days where newbies take mino and destroy it in under a minute ^^) Server Language is English. Bio- and Firetanks have raygun-turrets as well. Shockballs stop a Manta immediately - even in full speed. Don't use teleporters at the same time or you will get telefragged. Locked nodes are invulnerable. Use Shield-Gun to reflect fire from ShockRifles, Miniguns etc. ![]() |

u should promote this forum too. more players = better feedback.
a verry important message should be something about shooting at mantas at match start. i am often killed by morons who shoot at mantas with flack, rocket laucher, assault rifle 2nd fire, or shockrifle's orbs (secondary fire). that causes mantas to slide against nearby players and kill them. many players have to learn not to waste vehicles. "a good start of the match considerably increases your team's chances of winning it" "dont waste vehicles, especially at the beginning of the match" "don't obstruct teammates vehicles" "heal your low on health nodes or vehicles, with linkgun secondary fire" "at the beginning of the match check the minimap. it helps u choose the correct strategy(...)" -> "The best defence of the core is attacking the linked nodes" should be more like "the best core defence is by attaking enemy nodes that link it" there is also the teleport problem at some maps. like battlefront. "do not enter in the teleport gates(...) right after your teammate, wayt 1 second" it must be reformulated. but u got the idea. i die often killed by teammates teleporting same moment. and the irony is that i earn -1 suicide ![]() "instead of destroying empty and unlocked enemy vehicles, hijack and use them as your own"

Good idea is to mention that linked link-guns in alternative fire mode - are perfect for destroying enemy nodes.

when riding manta, jump on it's top instead of the wings
its more easy to jump on a manta when it's not in the air. get out of it and wait for teammate to climb it up

Now that I've gotten some socializing stuff out of the way and have a few posts under my belt, it's time to start talking about some more practical and server-related issues. This is a pretty easy and short one, so I might as well begin here.
Server automessages (AMs) seem like a good idea from the start since most servers just present a small bit of text in the MoTD (admins, sponsor reference, basic rules of behavior, etc.) and leave the rest untold and up to players' common sense. AMs offer more room to provide players with info, avoid confusion, offer fair warnings/advice equally and resolve problems before they become big. So, everyone agrees that AMs are all good, no bad, the best thing evar, all servers should have 'em and so on - I'm with you all there. But this is where our views about this AM discussion start to split. Now, I've read some suggestions for new AMs (both here and on the server sometimes) and most have to do with things like optimal uses of weapons, best ways of travel on foot or with other ppl's vehicles, team strategies, ways of avoiding bugs or game quirks and many other stuff that regulars pretty much wish all new players knew :p. Personally, I think that before you start using any tool, you should first decide what you want to use it for, what its "design" purpose is. Then you can start coming up with good application ideas. So, is the purpose of the AM system to substitute the UT2004 manual? Should the AMs system's goal be to provide advice about anything game-related like what you'd find at in-depth diatribes at GameFAQs.com or in lengthy UT msg board discussions? Do they serve their function by informing ppl about matters of general proper netiquette while playing, or ONS specific concepts about sensible teamwork, communication, coordination and other views that ppl realize over time? My answer to all the above is NO. And that is because THEY CAN FIND ALL THAT BY THEMSELVES and they can also gain that knowledge playing on ANY other ONS server. If your goal is to put in anything and everything conceivably relevant or helpful to ONS, then, frankly, you're not working on a system of short informative messages, but on a huge wiki about UT2004 and you guys have a loooooong way ahead of you before it's finished. IMO, the focus needs to be kept on making the players aware of issues that are specific or unique to TechCom, aspects that might've confused any of us when we first joined (but by now seem only natural). Do many servers feature map voting? If yes, assume as common knowledge and don't mention in AMs. Do all servers feature the stunt and ONSplus mutators? If no, use the messages to give ppl a quick idea of how these mutators change things so they can understand and rise to the same level as regulars quicker. What else is server-specific? Admin staff, TechCom's own rules and behaviour policies, other info like tinyurl links to music packs... i.e. most of the stuff that Foibos has already included! So forget about these lofty, ideal thoughts of teaching newbs everything there is to know one 100 character line at a time and let's keep things moving practically plz.
