Foibos, I guess you have easy access to a list of all maps on the server. Would be good to publish it here maybe.

Even 100, eh?
I guess according to statistics rules for standard distributions, 10-20% of those must be good maps, another 50% are expected to be average and the 30-40% rest are the reason why we keep complaining, huh :p? |

Nice to see that you keep the list up to date, Foib.
Maybe you should make this a sticky thread and delete at least my posts. ![]() ![]() |

crusha_k_rool wrote:Good idea. In fact, I think everything else besides the list can be deleted and this thread should continue to be maintained by Foibos with each post serving as an added/removed/replaced update for maps in the roster whenever they happen. For example: Sept. 29: - Added ONS-Pandemonium-Beta4-m - Removed ONS-SPAMBOX - Replaced SpaceJox-Edit1 with SpaceJox-NoInstas Impressions on new maps and complaints about existing ones can be dealt with elsewhere in the Maps section (assuming ppl still pay attention to feedback there). Oh, btw, the examples above are totally random :p. |

I've decided to remove the most controversial maps, BiggerBeerBattle and SpaceJox, they were higly unpopular for many players and they were leaving the server. Check the current map list above.

Umm, the list and post are marked as edited today, but both maps are still in there. Maybe you should check the list yourself?
I think both maps have strategic gameplay merits in 'em to warrant keeping around, so instead of removing them completely, why not just remove the SSRs (and do a few more tweaks as well) and see what ppl think of them then? If I remember correctly, you yourself started a thread back in the summer exactly for the purpose of receiving feedback on how to improve current maps (here) and many of us were more than willing to point out useful suggestions. Unless you weren't serious about it back then or you found none of our ideas good, why not draw inspiration from them and see if problematic maps can get better that way? And, hell, I think it's time we put more than just the SSR spam maps on the block to come up with a fresh verdict on whether they actually work and are a benefit or a detriment to TechCom's quality; I'm talking particularly about both Nightwolf maps with their terrible vehicle and other gameplay variety-crushing choices. As far as Beer and Jox go, neither should be a tough job to tweak anyway considering how small and simplistic they are.

My decision is simply based on empirical findings. After one of them was loaded, the swear filter had a busy day and players numbers dropped. I know there were some suggestions how to improve them, but the question is why? We have enough (for ONS server) popular NV maps, so why to keep these two? List updated, thanks for advice.

foibos wrote:That suggests there's strong distaste towards the maps that are currently offered, not that modifications to those maps wouldn't be welcome at all. Don't jump to conclusions without clear evidence. foibos wrote:I believe I addressed that before your post: Pegasus wrote: Both maps are small enough to support matches with fewer ppl as well as full 32p and feature node setups that allow for alternate routes and possible comebacks. And besides, if we were to follow and apply the reasoning of "we already have this many maps of that particular kind, why keep more?" (and, for the record, I'm not saying I'm against it), pretty soon we'd have that map list trimmed down to half its current size, what with the so many maps of similar gameplay style hosted on TechCom currently. Just to bring up some recent examples, what interesting element did Meadowland or Cataldi ever bring to the server to deserve staying around or, even worse, to warrant even more modding attention to them? |
