It's fucking awesome! It uses an improved version of the UT3-engine, allowing the following things in compare: -Realtime Global Illumination -Realtime Soft Shadows -Native SpeedTree-support -Create facial expressions -New GenericBrowser-look -Enhanced MaterialEditor amd all the other features of the engine. It's the Unreal Editor 4 with the engine, more than 2000 files with UScript-sourcecode for free, as long as it's non-commercial (you have to pay if you gain more than 5000$ with it, I think). And everybody can play your creations, no need for anything else. The Ball-demo and a UT3-demo where the new features like the illuminations have been used is available from the first link. Just awesome, this will probably assure the position of the Unreal Engine as the most used game-engine. ![]() |

Yes, UE3 is for UT3 and other current-gen games, no 2004 stuff.
Also, crusha_k_rool wrote:Most popular perhaps, but that doesn't necessarily mean UE3 is the best graphics engine in the market (constant development and a reliable, global tech support network to licensees have probably been the main selling points for client devs and studios). Dynamic soft shadows have been around since CryEngine2 (2007), I believe, and UE3 seems to be catching up to Crytek just now in that department. Btw, was your first link intentionally a pic, or did mix your copy-pasted urls and wanted to post another video (there's probably much more convincing ways to demonstrate real-time global lighting than a simple pic)? |

That pic was intentionally, I know it's not realtime but I couldn't find a video (or didn't search).
The bad thing for UT3-users is, that this new version of the engine is not integrated in the game (yet, maybe that will follow). And yeah, it's probably not the one with the best graphic, but I just love the editor although I never tried another one. But many people say that the Sandbox-editor of Crysis shall be the best editor out there… However, maybe we can see some free games made with the Unreal Engine 3 in the future… ![]() |
