Do you guys have any server demos?

I was tinkering about with my UT2004 when I came across all my old frag movie making bits n pieces I used to experiment with.

Anyhoo, I had a bit of a mess around the other weekend after spectating you guys and getting some fraps shots and started to muddle together an intro for a frag movie. Just basically to get used to everything again and I got to wondering if you guys had any server side demos of any ons games recorded server side?

If not, would it be possible to demorec one or two games on the server so I could have them to work with as RypL cam works good for some shots like tracking projectiles etc.

I know frag movies are not everyones cup of tea, but I get enjoyment learning the software and the challenge of making something half decent

Cheers,

No we don't have any yet.. but oh my god, we're going to be in a movie!!!
Tell me when the demos are taken, so I can finally prove everyone that I can frag the hell out of Thom. >_>

There are a lot of people who enjoy performance gaming videos (a whole range of types is included there besides fragvids, btw), and probably several in this community too. Personally, I've been down with such videos for the most part of the last decade, so I would certainly be interested to see what could come out of this. Before we get on with organizing specifics though, I'm curious about a few things such as: have you made any other UT action vids before? What gametype were they? Got any samples to share? What video editing software do you work with?

As far as demoreccing server-side, I doubt that would be hard to do. Maybe a bit too space consuming (32p, 10-20 mins, hundreds of channels... all that tends to pile up), but the host should probably have enough room to store a few of those.
Eyes in the skies.

Hi guys,

Thanks for the welcoming responses, I'm pleased to see such enthusiasm.

The only thing I have I could show right now is the test footage I've been toying with.
The quality is not the best as I'm still setting everything up and this was only an experimental idea for the start of "the movie".

It was more for the benefit of me re-familiarising myself with the software.
I tend to use software like Sony Vegas, virtual dub, FRAPS and After Effects, though I'm always on the look out for improvements and additions.

If anyone wants to see it, I can upload it to rapidshare or something. But remember, it's only a rough experimental intro cut.
I think the idea would work with better action shots though!

I'm also looking to drastically upgrade my PC after xmas to either an AMD Quad or 6 core to imporove editing and rendering performance.
I can't make up my mind since I do both gaming and rendering and each chip has its own advantage over the other.

RE: Space on server for demos, if it were possible to record the odd match when the regs are online, that would be okay.

Here we go peeps.

I've uploaded my rough cut to Mega Upload for anyone who wants a peek.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=GKNQRA55

Like I've said, it's nothing much and is very rough.
With the right shots though, it would look effective I think as part of "the movie".

I should also point out that this will not be a fast process and as some of you know, just composing and getting the right shots can take its time. Couple this with the fact that I am currently at college will mean the movie will be a little while in the making but hopefully not too long!

I'll do as much as I can whenever I have the free time and will try to keep you guys updated as often as possible.

Ideas and suggestions are welcomed and all will be noted, even if I don't have the opportunity to answer everyones ideas and questions individually.

Thanks again for the show of interest in this idea!
