I’ve got an older MTD push mower that still runs fine, but the blades are almost finished after years of use. I’m trying to figure out whether aftermarket replacements are reliable or if it’s better to stick with OEM. Has anyone tried both and noticed a difference?

After testing a few options, I discovered that quality aftermarket blades can actually be just as reliable as the originals. For example, MTD replacement mower blades are made to match OEM dimensions and are simple to install. What stood out to me was the balance of the blades, which prevented vibration and helped my mower run more smoothly. I also noticed that these blades held their edge well, so I wasn’t sharpening as often as before. If you’re maintaining a lawn with thicker patches of grass, it really pays off to get replacements that have the durability and consistent performance needed. Going with blades that are equivalent in quality but less expensive is definitely a smart option.
