Oh man does that bring back memories!!

When I was a kid I had a super beetle with an 8 track player that if I didn't put my J Giles/Cars tapes in JUST RIGHT they would be all scratchy.

Cuz - did you know about the match book? Anyone who actually had one learned the trick of jamming a match book into the space between the 8 track cartridge and the bottom of the slot to keep the heads of the 8 track tape pressed tightly against the heads of the machine. It was a truly hi-tech solution.

I can still recall knowing exactly in each song where the track was going to change becuase you would hear the "Ka-Ching" of the machine changing tracks.

You familiar with Aqualung album?

I know what an 8-track player is, But I never owned. My first car had a cassette player and I immediately replaced with a state of the art stereo system which include a Pioneer CD system. I was like the only one around who had a CD player back then. They had just came out for cars and I had to have one.

Sorry I never owned one. I know what one is because, one of my other cousins had one. . The first car that our family owned had AM radio. The first car I owned had a tape player.

My first car was a 1965 MGB. I basically had to rebuild it from scratch. The car had 2 - 6 volt batteries linked in series and a positive ground. yea that's right - a positive ground. It had an am radio in the dash. But, because of the positive ground, I could only install electronics that had the ability to switch polarity. I found an 8 track in a junk yard for $5 that had a polarity switch on the back. I never did find an am/fm that could switch. In the car's glove box and trunk were about 50 or 60 tapes. The 8 track was already obsolete, having been replaced by the casette tape (and CD's for rich kids - lol) so the owner of the junk yard threw the tapes in for another $5. There were some great titles there.

I used that 8 track for the entire 6 years I owned the MG. It was a constant topic of conversation with my friends who thought I was in the stone age.

lol my first car is a 67' mustang coupe. with a kenwood radio bc the orgininal was taken out by the previous owner -.- .

Except for the limited travel in the front end, the 67 Mustang was a great car. The small block 289 V8 was the best engine Ford ever built. I knew a lot of frineds that had a 67 Mustang with a 3 speed manual on the floor. Hurst made the perfect short throw shifter for that tranny.

Never had the experience but I heard those 6v English/British cars were a real bear to deal with...... lots of electrical "gremlins".
