Vent - what have i screwed up?

I have a dell with a sigma tel audio driver. I set up vent on my rear mike and all was well with the world. To try to make it more convenient, I switched it to the front mike jack and that's when my problem started. I can't make the mike work now.

When I get on vent it connects fine. I can hear all of you. When I push the play button it turns green but nobody can hear me.

I'm fresh out of ideas. Anybody have any?

In vent go to setup and make sure enable outgoing voice communications is ticked and PTT is ticked with the proper hot key.

Have you right clicked on the speaker icon in the systray --> adjust audio properties and checked the audio and voice tabs to make sure you are using the correct device?

Or right click on my computer to hardware to device manager and make sure it's not listed twice.

If it's not listed twice remove it using the device manager and reinstall it.

That's where I would start anyway.

The vent settings seem to be ok. I have outgoing ticked and have the PTT set for the hot key. In fact, when i hit the hot key and im in vent, my little speaker icon on the vent screen turns green. I think that means that I should be sending. To me that means that my mike is not connecting properly.

Here's the next clue. I noticed this morning that when I connect to COD4, (without vent running) I can hear myself in my headset through my mike. Have no idea what this means. I can't imagine its right.

When I turn on Vent, I can no longer hear myself in my headset. ??? Funny thing is that even after vent closes, I can no longer hear myself in my headset. But, if I close out COD4 and start it up again, I can hear myself in the headset again. When I look in the voicechat box, I can see the level indicator moving. Something is happening that I don't understand. Could it be from the interaction of the game and the vent?

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions.

I am tempted to go back to the restore/default settings on my computer and start from scratch.

I noticed you were up at 6 am, thought I was the only one up that early.

Update - may have found the problem - Sigma tel requires a manual switch from different jack sources and I had the hardware imput mixer set on Vent. I think that was the mike problem but ill see when somebody gets on.

Succes!!!!

The problem appears to have been in the mixer input/output setting. The settings between vent and sigmatel have to match. Duh.

Thanks for the help.

Can someone e-mail me the vent info again? I have the latest version of vent and last time it wouldn't connect me but I'm not sure I had the right info. I get my new graphics card tomorrow so I will be on once I set it up and am home from work.

Can anyone help Valkyrie with vent?

Her mic works in COD 4 but not in COD 5. Does, anyone know why this would happen or how to fix?

I'm sure she would appreciate the help.

Thx!

First thing I would check(if she hasn't checked it already) is that the hotkey for vent is not bound to anything in cod5.
