Hey Ice, and Blind.
Do you think you guys could enable a bandwidth filter on H2K's HC servers? This is unreal, players with 300, 400, 500+ pings are lagging everyone and people keep complaining to me about it. Can you guys please give that some thought? Thanks, Monkey |

Ice does have the min ping set to 200 on the server, maybe lowering this a bit will help, that would be his call. I have seen players join the server and their ping go up over 200 but there is no "easy" way to auto-kick for this.
I think what you are seeing with these high ping players is COD4's "anit-lag" feature, not really lag. I found this explanation out there, I can't account for the accuracy but it seems reasonable: Here is abit explaining the Antilag in cod4: "Without a doubt the best explanation of Anti-lag, now automatically enforced at CoD4: MW Patch v1.3, can be found below. The upshot of using Anti-lag is that low ping players will now find themselves in a more disadvantageous position than ever before. This is good news for all the North American west-coast players out there that have here-to-fore been pwned by easterners with low pings. ANTI-LAG Definition and Explanation: Its a latency-based system which uses algorithms to adjust hit registrations according to a mean average between 2 players whose latency (ping) is plus/minus 50 difference between them. It will delay the rigistration for faster connections, and speed it up for the slower one. In practice, in speeding up the registration, this sometimes appears like you've been hit before the player has even taken a shot. But that is only an illusion created by the algorithm used. Between players whose latency (ping) is not greater than a certain mean average between them, no noticable delay or speeding up is made. In other words, it gives slower ping players a fighting chance against players with a much faster ping. But between players whose ping is roughly the same, no such adjustments are made. If server admins want to reduce the amount of compensation used when anti-lag is enabled (and, it has to be said, many game industry insiders insist that anti-lag is by far and away the "fairer" system), make sure you exclude players with a ping greater than 50/60 the average player ping on your server. http://www.bbc-clan.co.uk/index.php?topic=2436.0;prev_next=next |

I reviewed the logs for the last week or so and it seems the server was letting in high ping players in.... everything in the config file is set properly, restarted the server hopefully this will resolve that issue.

Yeah, that's what I was noticing is that it was allowing some players with 500+ pings in and it was steady pings. Sometimes mine will go to 999 because Comcast sucks but that's only for a few seconds.
Hopefully we will see some differences, Monkey |

Comcast is just awful. Plain and freaking simple. If you are considering getting Comcast and play COD a lot ... don't bother. You will be wasting your time and though it's lower priced than the others it seems to drop every now and then.
Though ... after blind rebooted the server I only had one disconnect. So that's def an improvement! |

I figured that speeding my machine might compensate for the slow bandwith that Comcast has been providing to us in the woods. I have been clocking my bandwidth at 450-700 kmbps. That is pathetic! Basic service is supposto be 1.5 mbps and with speed boost up to 3.0 mbps. Bah! A cheep stop-gap solution for me was installing a nivida 9600-gt which was on sale at Bestbuys for $100.00. I had a nivida 7700 in there. The difference is amazing. For one thing I can run at my monitor's preferred resolution and I don't have to turn down too many of my graphics settings to keep decent framerates. The difference in my game in cod5 has been noticable. I can see everyting now and even close up I don't experience very much unplayable lag. I liked the change so much I decided to add 2 gigs of ram. I'll let you know if it helps. Sailus |
