http://venturebeat.com/2009/11/06/how-investigators-tracked-down-a-modern-warfare-2-cyber-thief/

IW caught a MW2 Cyber-Pirate.

Whoops, correction: IW found someone to find a pirate for them.

Good thing the did because this prevents huge loses amiright?!

Do they honestly think that after stripping PC-Players of basically why they bought a PC rather than a console, that this game will not be pirated like no other? That they will actually make a profit in the PC section of this game?

The investigators name was Holmes? Irony?

Not being a Pirate myself, I seriously considered learning how to, just to get back at them.

I think that a few days after release, the world record of most pirated online game will be set, an unreachable record at that too.

Seriously. What did they expect after they pissed off the pc community.

Can't wait to see the revenue reports for mw2. I'm expecting a sharp decline on their revenue as hackers and pirates get their hands on mw2 and do what they do.

They are going to make TONS of money with this game, even in the PC community there are so many players that are just oblivious as to how things work.

I'm gonna give it time. I think alot of those pc players bought it to see how it is. After they decide that it suxs, sales will go down.

Gonna wait and see.

Yeah it does suck that L4D2 will still be through Steam, but surprisingly for me the demo runs very smooth.

The revenues wont drop on this game enought to hurt IW or Activision. Blind is right, even PC players will buy this game oblivions to what the game is not. IW is like GM when it started building crappy cars in the 1970s cause it had over 50% of the us market. The people who were dissatisfied wtih GM's plan to build cars that needed to be replaced every 5 years (planned obsolence they called it) were not important to the company. Their complaints were ignored by management. But, over time, each new product was that much crappier and the competition from small foreign carmakers took its toll.

It's not this game IW has to be concerned about, its the next one. It is the hardcore PC gamers that built the reputation of the game and their absence will have an impact on marketing down the road. Designing games to last weeks instead of years will loose IW mareket share in the long run. It is a mistake to let IW's competitors, like EA with Battlefield, develop inroads into its customer base. It is always a mistake to do that, no matter how small you think that market is. GM laughed at the first Toyota imported into the states. Its executives could not imagine why anyone would want to bein the small car merket. There wasn't enough profit in it. As far as they could see, people didn't want small cars. The company had no desire to be in that market. You know the rest of the story.

Sound familiar. History does repeat itself. Somewhere out there in a garage somewhere is a group of young game designer wannabees who are realizing that there is a niche market waiting to be exploited.
