Banned for botting.

Take note this player recently applied to the administrators position. Consider this a formal "Hell no" from the Jenn's Island crew. You might also heed my warnings next time I give you three chances to turn it off, instead of claiming I "am not an admin".

Server warning alerted me to his bot. Then subsequent unlikely kills led to a sightjacking. Video quality not great but I recorded it: http://www.mediafire.com/?ffk34nq35oqgirb

I used mediafire because every time I try to use YouTube I get a wasted upload due to failed processing or unrecognised file errors.

See you in a month. Unban: Feb 10th.

Very good catch Gul and very good video evidence. Because we have GREAT video evidence of this I would say at least a 6 month ban ... I want to be very strict on botters especially when we have the concrete evidence.

What do you guys think?

I disagree. I feel that a 1 month ban initially is appropriate, but if he's caught doing it again, then he ought to be gone for good. Look at it from his point of view, too. He KNOWS we (by we I mean you two) can detect his bot, so he'll be wary of using it on Jenn's in the future.

Well I agree his punishment should be extended. He denied botting several times and ignored three warnings. I offered him ample opportunities to play fairly (as proven with chat logs) and he continued on.

This is compounded by the fact that he also applied to the administrators position. Yet again I see this as an attempt at gaining power which could render Jenn's Island a hostile and unwelcoming server run by cheaters.

I would say anything from 3-6 months is adequate for a cheat of this kind. Considering a standard ban so far has been for verbal offeneces at a length of one month, I absolutely agree that a cheater should be banned for longer.

Now that I've thought about it for a while, based on the fact that he cheated and applied to the administrators position, I would say he has compounded his offence at least double. Therefore I recommend a minimum of three months.

Bon, HALO PLAYA, your thoughts?

Edit: wrote this while you responded, Bon. Thanks.

Exactly my point. We've given 1 month bans for verbal offenses and the same 1 month fan for a botter? I'm sorry that ain't right. And 75% of the people who bot could care less about the halo community...they go from pub server to pub server botting just to annoy people and get their kicks. You think this guy will stop after just banning him for a month? Nah. Botters dont care that they were caught. He'll move on to other servers and continue it. I thought we were going to be TOUGH on botters expecially ones we caught with video evidence...1 month is not tough IMO. Especially since this is the first one that this admin team has caught and has video evidence I say we make a statement that we are not going to tolerate cheats on Jenn's. Make an example out of this guy and others will take notice.

Well, I think the first time should be the month that you've done, and if it happens again, that they just shouldn't play on Jenn's anymore if all they wanna do is cheat.

LOL you guys have much more compassion towards botters than I do. I can't stand them. They are destroying the game and the communnity and I have zero respect for them. I'm fine with the one month ban warning if that's what you choose to do, but personally I think you should be much more strict on these individuals who make a choice to ruin the game for others and in this case someone who was told by an admin several times to stop botting. I say make an example out of him to set the tone that we will not tolerate it one bit, but I'll go with whatever the majority decides. This is why we have a team to discuss things!

Yes, I like the idea of an initial 1 month ban. Just as players get more than one chance when warned, and more than one chance when kicked, they should get more than one chance when banned. Of course, if the lout comes back in with the bot again (like I said before, unlikely given that he knows we can spot it) we'll just chuck him out with the rest of the garbage. Permanently.

Spirit, I understand where you're coming from, too. It maddens me to no end when I encounter that peculiar breed of individuals who, as Frank Sinatra so eloquently put it, "... get their kicks, stompin' on a dream." If you feel that the initial ban should be 2 or 3 months instead of 1, I won't put up a fuss. We are talking about a bottom-feeder here, after all.

Bon,

Since you quoted me Sinatra I'm good with whatever you say.

1 month is fine.
