Thermaltake's brain-melting Level 10 PC chassis gets real, unboxed by Darren Murph posted Sep 28th 2009 at 5:32PM Remember that Thermaltake enclosure that blew your mind back in March? Of course -- you're still recovering, after all. Fast forward to today, and that very case -- which had a hint of BMW influence, by the way -- has morphed into reality, and it's far and away one of the most fabulous cases we've ever seen. Amazingly, the finished product looks awfully similar to the concept, with each compartment boasting its own ventilation. There's room for pretty much anything you'd ever want (yes, even room for three Blu-ray writers), and of course, enough LEDs are included to light up the average night club. You should also know that the shipping container weighed 66 pounds and the chassis itself is probably larger than your eight year old, so unless you've got more square footage than you know what to do with, you're probably better off viewing the unboxing shots (there in the via link) from afar. ![]() |

Looks like Thermaltake decided that maybe $800 for a case was a bit too steep, they changed some stuff up and made a new one, the Level 10 GT.
![]() Designed as a "mainstream" successor to the original Level 10, it's basically a smaller, lighter and cheaper alternative to the 2009 chassis that many coveted but few could afford. Priced at around $249, the GT is over $500 cheaper than the original and may end up being a better performer, too. Let's not forget, the Level 10 may have been jaw-droppingly beautiful, but it offered impractical dimensions and average cooling performance at an exorbitant price. ![]() As a consequence of the cost-cutting alterations, the chassis no longer oozes charisma and wow factor. It comes across instead as a Chinese knock-off of the original concept. But perhaps that's the idea? It's hard to ignore the massive price discrepancy between new and old, and the Level 10 GT is now far better placed to compete with high-end alternatives such as Corsair's Obsidian Series http://www.hexus.net/content/item.php?item=19661 but it looks so much better that corsair case looks kinda meh. Get past the disappointment of realising that the original Level 10 was too ambitious, and you start to notice the potential of this toned-down substitute. The case opens up like a butterfly to allow easy access to the motherbaord and components. The connector that you see on the edge of the side panel, it is the power connector for the side panel fan, they decided to make it that way so you don't have to A)Worry about the fan coming disconnected from the motherboard, and B)have wires strewn about everywhere that can be seen. The fan guard is adjustable so you can blow the air from the fan on the door to where you want to. We save all the wires for behind the motherboard tray, which I'm not sure is removable or not. http://level10gt.thermaltake.com/ More info at |
