I got to thinking, and I was wondering. How do you make a game server? Do you need a server computer? What kind of software do you need on it?

I'm just wondering, If anyone knows.

u need a computer with a lot of ram and nothing to do... windows xp will work

u need to have access to u router's config to open the appropriate ports...

and u need to run hldsupdatetool.exe to install the game

well wtf is the dedicated server?

u can use the one in steam, but it is not configurable, moddable, or adminable, in any real sense of the3 terms


is not efficient or fun... plus u client is running the game, so u cannot play

Cool, I have an old computer that has a 2.0 + CPU, which I heard is the most important thing. And it is in the attic roting away. It has 10 Gigs of HD space. It has Windows 2000 as the Operating System. And I could probably have it on from 3 - 10PM weekdays, and all day on weekends. So thats available I guess.

Just need to set it up.
