To be honest these servers should be taken down. It's become an unadmined cesspool of the community. That's what everyone thinks when the word "Merrils" is said in chat. It attracts the very dregs of the RO2/RS community.
Merrils fell from its number 1 spot a year ago now. Even falling off the top 15 servers at times. But its still a terrible place to play half the time. The Recent attempts in the past few months at "new admins" being literally anyone who wanted it has failed. They caused so much juicy drama and the ones that weren't made a mockery of left shortly after. Merrils marauders in RO2 is like a dead man walking. They should go down. It would save you all a bit of money and overall improve the RO2 community. Meaning people spread to other servers which are well admined, run custom content and are community based. I haven't seen a true 475th member play RO2 in a long time. It's time for merrils marauders in RO2 to shut down. |

lemonater47 wrote: There are some factually wrong statements here. Merrill's Stalingrad lost its number 1 spot only about 2 months ago, when the admin Nader Raider caused some drama by banning a large number of players (including myself) for no apparent reason. Regardless of what many people say, I still find the competition on Stalingrad to be of the highest quality. There are regulars that play here which are some of the finest in the community. That being said, a lot of these guys are extremely toxic, and a lack of an admin team is definitely worrying at times. For instance, vote kicking based on "hackusations" has gotten out of hand as players like 6 Million Pies have gotten back on their tirade, with no admins to address his shit. As much as people complain about the 'childish' or 'immature' atmosphere, it is generally rare, and most players are able to self monitor this kind of behavior via vote-kick regulation anyway. I definitely think Merrill's should employ some admins quickly, but I think suggesting for them to close their server is a little biased, coming from someone who advertises bloodbath constantly. I think a lot of players would agree with you if there was some alternative. Right now, there are enough NA players to fill two full campaign Stalingrad servers most days, and if some server came along with good map rotations, possibly even some custom content deemed fair, I am sure people would move, but clearly, that is just not happening, as Merrill's and Weekend are gathering most of the NA player base. |

Garmo and Nader wouldn't have even been admins if Merril and the crew hadn't abandoned ship all of a sudden. Placing whoever the hell raised their hand in an admin role. Even if it was a 16 year old kid with ego issues. They are all gone now. Even the good admins such as Grossman and Duffy are gone. Duffy was the only one who could contact Merril half the time. Even way back in 2012 if you wanted to talk to merril about something you had to get Duffy to send him a text message to do something lol. Merrils was the North American communities saving grace. Back in 2014. For too long RO2 had been dominated by clan focused servers who gave no shits about the community. With Terrible admins that only cared about themselves. Merrils was the alternative and overnight it went from a server nobody knew about to the most popular server in the game. Though that was in association with a few DDOS attacks according to the owners of those servers everyone hated. Merrils has tried getting more admins and every time it has failed. Which you have experienced first hand. Asking them to repeat the same mistakes and expecting a different result won't solve any problems. Not to mention the server "self admining" is getting you votekicked all the time. So again why defend that lol. Weekend warriors is good because it has a couple admins, it has a website and they aren't abusive. They don't even make themselves known as an admin to everyone else they look like normal players. They don't put any tags in front of their names like Merrils admins did. The website and forums means you can easily get a ban appeal in if anything does happen. They have no issues and haven't been the centre of negative drama like Merrils has in the past. Then there's bloodbath. Nobody has a problem with them. They have 20 admins. And yet no hate threads anywhere. Nobody complaining about them. Only praise heads their way. Compare them to 40-1 in Europe which has the same amount of servers and same amount of admins. 40-1 gets hate threads all the time all over the place. Reddit, steam and even the Tripwire forums themselves. The reason why is the difference in mentality. Bloodbath is for the community whereas 40-1 is for themselves. Bloodbath admins must Earn the respect of the community and they operate on a "don't be a dick" mentality. Their system ensures that admin abuse doesn't happen on bloodbath. Plus they run custom content, events and all sorts of things. Bloodbath started because of the breakdown of communication happening in Merrils back in 2015. That's when merrils was going downhill. It started 2 years ago. The shutting down of merrils maruaders is healthy for the red orchestra 2 community in general. They are a day of defeat clan anyway. People play on servers where the players are. So there is nothing bad that can possibly happen if merrils went away. The playerbase will just move. Merrils only got popular because the playerbase moved. Don't get me wrong I would be sad to see them gone. They saved us from groups such as 2fjg. But all good things must come to an end. |

I didn't play much over there so I am not aware of all that is being posted here. However, I do believe that there is no longer any adming going on there. I will be in contact with the owner and see if he feels we should shut the servers down.

What I am intending to do is make the best possible enviroment for the entire North American Red orchestra 2 community. If a server operator doesn't want to get involved at all then it's detrimental to the community. Save some cash. |

I've contacted Merrill and asked him to take a look at this discussion. I, too, asked him to take the servers down to save us some money. We have no admins there any longer and I don't know of any current members who have any interest in moving from DoD to RO. We'll see what he decides to do.
