Greetings and Happy Holidays 475th folks,

I would like to make an appeal for my ban from the 24/7 Caen server.

My moniker is Tater.

I have played on your servers on and off for years. (Poorly, for the most part, I might add.) I play for months on end, and then take hiatuses for months on end. Anyway, I recently started playing again a couple weeks back and happened upon the Caen server as I usually do. You guys have a good thing going with that particular map. It's a great place to go when you don't know what map to play.

Ever since day one of downloading DoD, I have occasionally had an issue with my sights not moving with mouse movement and/or not getting immediate trigger fire when using my mouse. I have tried a lot of things to get this issue resolved, to no avail. In the past, I had sometimes checked to see if things were, or weren't, working by aiming up at a building in spawn and shoot to verify everything was working. I never purposely TK'd anyone while doing this.

However, upon returning to the Caen server a couple weeks back, I was informed that any type of shooting in spawn isn't allowed. I was, and am, okay with that. I can go hide in a corner somewhere and test my setup, I figured.

Fast forward to 2 days ago, I was again on the Caen server and had been playing for a good while when all of a sudden an admin said something to the effect of "Tater, I've warned you about shooting in spawn. In fact, I've warned you multiple times. I'm banning you." At the point that the Admin was made that comment, I wasn't in spawn. I had just turned the corner around the first corner from Allied first flag and had just shot into the 2nd floor above the dark room after seeing an Axis player move across the window.

I did quickly ask "Who? Me? I wasn't shooting in spawn." "Wait a minute." and that was it. 2 week ban.

I don't know if you keep records of some sort to check on this, but I did not and was not shooting randomly in spawn. In fact, I wasn't even in spawn at the time.

I am assuming that I was mistaken for someone else that was doing something untoward at the time, and I would like to have my ban lifted if you could see fit. I do recall going to grab a loose gun at the bottom of the spawn wall before I went on my way, but again I did not fire my weapon until I turned the corner past the allied first flag.

If not, fair enough. I just wanted an opportunity to clear the air here. By the way, since the old website is gone (www.475thrangers.com) you folks prove hard to find. LOL.

I am the admin that banned you.
We do not allow shooting of your weapon for no reason anywhere near spawn. We get all kinds of new players that run around and shoot at the sky, walls, ground, basically anything but an opponent. You were on several times and you were told to stop shooting NEAR spawn. I was the admin that told you the other times as well and if I remember correctly, 73 asked you as well and I remember you making a smart ass comment after the fact.

We do not allow shooting for no reason because FF is on at ALL TIMES, also because some players like to use sound at all times during game play, this is so we can hear an opponent jumping around or running towards one of our flags. I like to listen for on opponent reloading his weapon getting ready to run for the last flag. Hard to do if someone is running around shooting at everything.

So, you say something is wrong with your setup... I suggest you fix it before you come back. Because if it is not fixed, you will be banned again. Play on empty servers and resolve your issue is my advice.
You might even want to post here as a question of what your system is doing and maybe someone can help you.

As far as I know, I have been abiding by the "no shooting in/near spawn" since I was notified it wasn't allowed a couple weeks back. If someone brought it up again with me, then I missed it.

As far as a smart ass comment, I don't recall what I said the first time it was brought up, but whatever it was I meant no harm and I certainly didn't intend for anyone to take it that I had no intention of respecting the rules. So, if there was some confusion there, I apologize.

As far as I know, I have adhered to all other rules on the server, and even my incidental TK numbers have dropped considerably because I don't want anyone to think I'm shooting randomly like a moron and killing my own team. Especially considering I don't play enough to be super great at this game as a lot of others like yourself are. On the rare occasions that I do TK, I always apologize profusely for it.

As I have already said previously, I have other options for "testing" my peripheral issues, and I had already made an adjustment.

As for the specific instance that you determined to ban me for. I know exactly what I saw and shot at. I explained as much. If you thought I was shooting at nothing instead of the enemy in the window above the dark room, I'm truly sorry about that. That's what I saw, and that is precisely what I shot at from my vantage point at the precise moment.

I do believe you may still have mixed me up with someone else OR you didn't see what I saw and shot at. It is also possible that the latency between the two of us made it look like I wasn't around the corner or something when, on my monitor, I was.

I would still appreciate a shortening of the ban as it has been 3 almost 4 days now, and the 24/7 Caen server is by far the most competitive and busy later in the evening of the ones I like to play on. It's the only way to get better at this crazy game, right?

I will go ahead and remove your ban for now.
Do know that if it happens again, the next admin might not be as forgiving as I am.
