I posted this here before, but nothing ever came of it. It never got a direct response form the admins, so I'm posting it again to see if it will this time.
What about using an agent to check for Dynamic IP addresses? It constantly checks the Pulic IP Address of the server, and if it changes, the agent updates it on GameTracker. It could be secure with a token that's generated on the installation of the agent, and supplied to the GameTracker database, so it can be checked every time the agent wants to update the IP Address. To avoid exploitation, maybe have the agent check various variables of the server at startup to see if they match (for example, the MAC address of the network card, the serial number of the hard drive, etc.) If they don't don't allow the agent to check for a new IP Address or update the one on GameTracker. This could also be great for people that have multiple instances on a dedi, since the agent could change all of the IP Addresses at once, as well as automatically give ownership to a user on GameTracker. It'd make it a lot easier to add servers, and claim them. Thoughts? |

Hello,
Good suggestion. I don't think a dedicated software package like this would be the best option, but it will be considered when planning future site updates. If people have a dedicated server, a feature like this wouldn't be necessary. A static IP or set of IPs is standard for something like this. The only people that would find this useful would be the home users who host it on their local computer, which is a very small portion of the GameTracker server database. ![]() |
