Boosting with dproto

Here is what I have discovered at one of the beloved boosting sites:

- in dproto.cfg (can be found either directly in the server or in the cstrike directory) modify the following cvar:
- FakePlayers_AntiReconnect instead of 1 set it 0
- FakePlayers_BanTime instead of 120 set it -1


You should be ashamed of yourself if you are responsible of this. Using dproto and non-steam pirated copies of CS 1.6 to boost your server for higher ranks. Shame on you. We will not allow it any longer.

Good and strong decision from the staff. It's about time that these guys should be stopped. I honestly don't understand the real reason behind all these guys racing for the highest rank, buying boosting services, xfake players and stuff is really disgusting. At the end, everyone will stop at the no1. rank and then what? So work on getting a fair rank, showing off a player count that you really doesn't deserve gonna come down sooner or later, because player's aren't that stupid to notice a boosted server these days.

But it's a bit scary because you said something about DProto, which allows non-steam clients to connect to HLDS servers. Do you mean like all non-steam servers will be banned? Well I guess my servers will be also gone and many others too, specially considering Counter Strike 1.6 list here is mostly non-steam.

I think the rank abusers are happy now, see what you have done.

It is not dproto directly that would cause the deranking, but rather the opportunities and exploits which dproto allow.

I understand, but it's scary because I'm not exactly understanding your final decision. Knowing that DProto makes it easy for non-steam and other fake clients to get into a server, banning DProto all together will solve this problem? Yes.

Without DProto, the exploits will be gone with the need for a valid steamid. Boosting services will also die to a extent because they basically have to buy millions of valid steam accounts in order to boost servers which isn't practical enough. Maybe they will make their own server listing to list non-steam servers, so who knows.

This does not mean that steam is the only method to block invalid clients, infact non-steam servers are so strong now with projects like ReHLDS and stuff, they also have plugins to block fake players and attacks but it's strictly upto the server owners to install them, if not fake players are allowed to join. But it's not as accurate as steam because non-steam does not have unique client ids like steamid. Not to mention they themselves have also made a non-steam plugin called ReUnion which is better and newer than DProto which allows non-steam clients to join because they know where the majority of players coming from, which is non-steam so the project will get more attention.

For a fair ranking, allowing steam-only servers will be the answer. If anyone have better ideas don't be hesitated to reveal it. A huge user base split is coming...

It's best. But you'd better delete any server that uses boost / fake players / exploits / hacks / etc

I agreed, do what's best for the platform. It's disgusting to watch the server list like this. But yet, admin didn't gave a clear answer so not sure what he is going to do next.
