I would like to drop the 042 at the end of my name. Yet when I do so it makes a new name for me on the server just staff on, thus creating a new score. I would like to keep my old score and keep building that up but under a new name. Can I link them together.

There is currently no feature for server owners to merge player nicknames. While this may be added in the future, we cannot give any sort of time frame.
