i am trying to claim my server but it keeps saying i need to change my server name why is that

You need to temporarily change the server name in order to prove it is your server. Please re-read the instructions located in the (?) button near the claim ownership button, in that error message, or at this link http://www.gametracker.com/forums/forum.php?site=1&thread=108252

States that I cannot 'claim' my server because my profile is less than one week old? Does everybody have to wait a week before setting up something they just purchased?

The delay is site wide, not just in reference to you.

If it's a GT Premium server, I believe it will automatically assign it to the account owner when they manage it in their Premium panel.
