So I bring down my server to come here to claim it.
GametrackerClaimServer or something is the name it requires... What a pain. Anyways, Im here trying to claim my server. I click claim to find out what I must name the server to claim it...No problem. It wont tell me the appropriate method of claiming my server unless its running... So wait. To claim a server, I must... Bring it up, come here, bring it down, rename it, bring it up, claim it, bring it back down, rename it to MY name, and then finally bring it back up again? If that's the best process you could come up with, there must be a shortage of brain cells out there o.o |

Criticism is easy.
Please feel free to propose a method, one that does not require any manual intervention of Gametracker personnel, that ensures that the actual owner/administrator of a server is the only person who may ultimately claim their server. It must also allow absolutely any member to add a new server, without the requirement of claiming ownership, at any time. Let's test your cognisance of reliable and simple security protocols. There is, in case you missed it (and it appears that you have), a FAQ section, and within that section is a precise description of the process. Thank you for the feedback. For pretty much every server owner, claiming a server is a very simple process that takes no more than a couple minutes. At this time, there are no plans to make it even more simple than it already is. However, if you have any suggestions, feel free to suggest.
In terms of the process you describe, you have quite a few extra steps in there. Here's what I suggest: Open your configuration file. Alter the server name so it has GameTrackerClaimServer in it. Upload the file to the server. Restart the server. Click the claim button on GameTracker. Undo the changes (ie. CTRL + Z) to your configuration file, re-upload. Restart the server. Note: For many games, you can use RCON to change the server name and do not need to even reboot it. ![]() |
