Hello, I'm new here and don't really know my way around. So I have some simple questions.

-How can I start my own public servers here?

-What is the basics around here?

Hello,

You can look into professional hosting or host the server yourself. Companies like www.gameservers.com can host game servers for you in their data centers around the world.

You can also host it at home. The only problem would be that most ISP's give home owners dynamic IP addresses, meaning they will frequently change. You'll also have to keep your computer online for as long as you want the server online. These two reasons are common reasons why many people go with a server provider.

Not sure what you mean by the basics - if you have any questions, let me know.

So would I have to get a dedicated server or just game servers (so it will run even with the computer off)

Hello,

It depends on what you'd be looking for. A dedicated server would be an entire server box. You could host many servers on a dedicated box.

A "game server" subscription on their site is just renting a single game server on a shared dedicated server. You would be renting your server, but there will be other customer's game servers on the same box.

So, if you are just looking for a single server, a dedicated server would be overly large investment. However, if you are looking for many servers, a dedicated server may be a good option. This would also depend on which operating system you would want on the server and which games support that. If you are looking for a dedicated server, you should contact their support team with your questions.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Would it be better to just buy game servers? I am planning on hosting 1 or 2 garry's mod servers, 1 or 2 team fortress 2 servers aswell.

Yes with only 2-4 servers, individual servers would be lighter on costs. You can get the TF2 servers from GameServers but not the Garry's Mod servers. They still have special pricing of $0.99/slot public $0.79/slot private servers, so you can get a good deal on the TF2 servers.
