Hi there!
I have noticed that e.g. a Player with the vocal "ü" in his name could not be found by the search function. But he is listed and I´m only able to find him via scrolling through the whole tracked namelist. Example names are: "Türke" or "Schürzenjäger". Copy&Paste doesn´t help either while searching. http://www.gametracker.com/server_info/84.200.0.126:28960/top_players/ I guess the same problem would occur on the vocals "ä" and "ö" if they are in the name somewhere. (These are vocals which are used for example in german and austria) I think it is because in english those vocals does not exist - but is it possible to fix this? ^^ Thank´s in advance! Kind regards ![]()

I am confused why Unicode is not allowed in the "First Name" and "Last Name" sections in user profiles-- the Latin Alphabet is not the only set of characters that are valid as personal names, and although they can be "romanized", it leaves ambiguity between different written names that are pronounced the same. It is an unacceptable, in my opinion, that large numbers of the world's population are prohibited from using these text fields as intended.
I assume that this originally was a technical limitation, or a lack of foresight on the part of developers, however, one only need look at the growing trend of users in nations where the roman script is not predominate coming on the internet to realize that this is a bias that should be corrected, lest other sites that allow more freedom of expression (such as by allowing foreign personal names, server names, etc) grow in popularity and attract users away from this site. I call this a "bug" because the server expressly refused the text provided, specifically " ジョン " and " ファナン ", stating that these were not valid names-- the "validity" of a name is not something for this site to decide. If there is a technical limitation that prevents these names from being used that you are unwilling to correct, please state this explicitly instead of the misleading statement that they are invalid names in general. |

Hello,
I appreciate your thoughts and concern. We are aware that some of the forms on GameTracker do not properly allow users to input the whole range of Unicode characters. We expect to resolve these issues in future updates to GameTracker. You are correct - this is a bug. The context of "validity" when referring to websites, web forms, and computer programs typically means whether or not the website server can process the submitted input. While the script may be valid in the native language, it may not be in a format which the form processor deems processable. We did not choose this term with intention to offend the end user. Best regards. |
