I'm trying to get a banner for forums and such, using the Server Banners page.

The banners show the server as online and report the right player/motd info, however I can't seem to figure out how to get the banner to show my server's domain name instead of the IP.

Obviously people should be able just type GolemKnoll.com rather than having to decipher and transcribe an IP address.

Plus having an IP address where the banner should clearly show the domain name just looks aesthetically terrible.

Can anyone explain how I create a proper banner with domain name instead of IP address?

GameTracker does not support tracking by dynamic DNS at this time. This is why DNS addresses are resolved to an IP upon adding.

It's not a dynamic DNS, it's a static A-record domain.

So is gametracker.com not equipped to display domain names like any professional banner would?

Like I mentioned previously, GameTracker does not support DNS (Doman Name System) for tracking servers at this time.

And this is the exact reason why I won't be using Gametracker's image banners.

I mean, they look great and I love the stats displayed on them, but I have advertised my server as "windoom.com" everywhere, and it would confuse people a lot to suddenly see the bare IP address.

Besides, we chose it for a reason, the more confusing a join address looks the less likely players will be bothered to type it out, so it defeats the purpose since it is an image (there's no copy-paste).

The only useful one would be the HTML banner then, but I can't really use that for anything but the website..

If you guys will support the DNS name displaying, I'll most likely use your image banners everywhere as well, I'm sure that I'm not only speaking for myself here.

We have had one or two other requests to refactor the image banners to be able to effectively show DNS. In most cases, it does not work well due to length limitations. It's in the feature request list, and may be done in the future.
