If you have both the old ip and the new ip claimed, you can migrate the player stats. Go to the manage page of the "old" server and use the migrate option to transfer to the new one.

This is on the page you claim the server and can use all of the other options like resetting stats, block users, etc.

Hi there GameTracker Staff.

Following recent events and looking into this issue with changing server addresses and associated rankings being carried over.

The problem I've been having at late with several services I host myself and enter them on GameTracker for some sort of rank system tracking.
Well it seems they've been getting DDOSed from children which appears to be associated to the GameTracker Rankings.
At the moment when they attack the services i host, they sort-of win in regards to nocking them up and down the top ten ranks. All I do is have a pool of addresses that I change to ensure they stay online on the in-game server browser, and since i cannot changes ip addresses in GT and carry over ranks I don't bother tracking these spare addresses and just switch them over when the DDOS has ended.

Now I have a suggestion in-regards to deterring these sorts of attacks which seem to be linked to your rank system.
If a server is detected to be 'offline' for three consecutive scans by your system i feel you SHOULD freeze the server rank for 24 hrs from the point of these three failed scans.
After that if the server is still offline presumed 'dead' release its rank and let normal order continue.

At the moment I'm at a point of not bothering with GameTracker as you offer nothing really in-regards to rank and attack mitigation.
Whats the point entering a server with you if people are just going to attack it.

Now before people even bother to waste there time attempting to tell me how i should run my data centers. I'm a T2 transit specialist. I have all my services behind a hardware firewall but when an attack exceeds 10gbit/s directly aimed at one specific IP addresses their is very little that can be done other then NULLing the address till its ceased as the 2gbit peer point to each of my servers will get contested (i can only filter a set amount of traffic before it affects the machine/node).

Now I hope GT Staff take on-board my suggestions otherwise I'm sure I'll not be the only one not bothering with your tracking services in the future.

Kindest Regards,
Alex

Right now ranking looks at the past week. I don't think it would work out well with how ranking works on the site to automatically freeze rank. An implied portion of high rank is good uptime, which is negated when certain "dead" servers can keep rank without doing anything.

Also, you are correct - GameTracker does not offer anything in regards to attack mitigation. GameTracker is a tracking service, not a network or security consulting service.

I'd like to point out, that again, my services appear to be getting hit due to their Rankings on your site.
I think if this continues and you do not address this, (come up with another way) to freeze 'dead' servers for 12-24hrs when this occurs. I'll be pulling all my servers from your system. At the moment they do this to cause a drop in ranks I'm guessing so they can get back on top. They're succeeding and getting away with it as you said you track up-time and players etc.
Till you review the ranking process they'll continue to do this thus making your rank system full of corrupt server rankings.

- Maybe also consider another option of hiding Server IP Addresses/Ports. Rather than showing the address in the url (and everywhere else), create a string which relates to an address. This also might ease these attacks... Only the owner or persons whom added these needs to know the IP address after all 100% of traffic is coming from in-game browsers.

Just food for thought? I was also not implying they you're a security service, it seems very coincidental that ever since my services got into the top rankings (on your tracking service) they get hit.

Kindest Regards,
Alex

I don't believe there are any immediate plans to hide a server IP address, as that removes the ability for users to join the server through GT Lite or direct IP connect. However, it can be evaluated in the future when planning updates to the website.

Ranking is definitely a sensitive subject and the one thing GT does not like to do is to "give out" ranking when nothing has been tracked. We have no idea what may have normally happened in the absence of tracking, so it is difficult for us to be comfortable with just giving out rank. The method you suggest, on the extreme end, would allow a server to keep the same rank for the entire week (entire rank period) by being online once on a daily basis.

Unfortunately there are some users that look for certain servers to attack so that they lose popularity. Whether or not GameTracker can do anything to prevent that is something that GameTracker will need to consider (in terms of the tracking service). As long as a user could find/connect to a "popular" server from any service or ingame browser, they would have enough information on it that GameTracker could give.

We can also "derank" your servers, which would push them to the back of the ranking. If you're concerned about being targeted for being a popular server, this may help.

Thanks for the reply again.

I hope you do consider some sort-of ability for server "managers" to check a box to hide their tracked servers IP Address. Which will then hide or disable set objects on a page relating IP/Port details.
Then also create a unique string for things like banners to be associated with. I'm not saying force this upon users but really consider having it as an option.
So for example currently one of mine is;
http://www.gametracker.com/server_info/81.19.212.47:2302/

It would not be difficult to associate an IP to a string on your backend, example below.
