I have battlefield 4 , what steps do i need to take to play online?

All depends, just open battlefield 4 and you will get a browser to open, then it will request you download a plugin for your browser, once you installed it reboot the browser by rerunning the game then select multiplayer and select a server you wish to join on and should send ya into something like this http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf4/servers/show/pc/ec395296-4b38-41ad-93ea-dc2f03efc1c2/NEC-Conquest-24-7/
also note that some server require you to have premium verson of battlefield 4 which would cost another $40 http://www.battlefield.com/battlefield-4/buy
