Hi everyone,

I am new here.

Can somebody please help me with my situation? I recently bought a PC physical copy of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (GOTY edition). It's brand new, factory seal. I went ahead and install. The installation went through fine. No problem, but when I tried to launch the game (single player or multiplayer), this error pops up:

"C:\\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\D3DX9_34.DLL is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. Error status 0xc000012f."

I have tried:
- Restarting computer
- Download DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer from Microsoft and run it
- Manually replace d3dx9_34.dll in the System32 folder
- Reinstall game (three times)

So far, I have not been able to find anything that would even does the tiniest change to this issue. So, I desperately need your help.

If this topic is not in the right place, please accept my apology and moved it to the correct location.

Look forward to see some replies from you guys. Thanks in advance.

The game is 10 years old. If you are running Windows 7 or newer, try setting compatibility to XP. Also set "run as administrator" . Right click on desktop icon. Then "run as admin". In properties select compatibility and select XP.

I just tried that. I set compatibility to both Windows XP (Service pack 2) and XP (Service pack 3), and then run as administrator, but still doesn't work. It is still the same error message.

You said you bought a physical copy. Was it in a sealed retail package? A player I know bought a new copy of the game so he could play with his son. It was not possible for him to play on line, no matter what he tried. He kept getting a message that the GUID was not valid. Some may be corrupted, I guess. try to get a refund or exchange.

The other possibility is you need the patch for the game. Google COD4 1.7 patch. You should be able to find a download site.
