Creating a Counter-Strike 1.6 Server
Jul 23, 2012 2:42 PM
Hi Everyone!
I have seen many people asking how to make a cs 1.6 server or complaining about problems with following guides present on the net and/or problems with fully made server downloads available on many sites. I myself had a hard time finding good tutorials for this and at last found on authentic one but there is one problem, that tutorial is a little hard for newbies so I though of making it better and made my own Counter-Strike 1.6 Server Tutorial based on it:
http://www.gametracker.com/clan/Needforheadshot/forum.php?thread=72729

Do check out my tutorial and comment on it so that I can make it better.
Regards,
RaHBeR

Hi edwin_kuswanto!
Sure you can use your own maps, you just have to place the map files in the appropriate folders.

Here I have written where each of the map files will go:

\HLServer\cstrike -------------------------------------------> .wad
\HLServer\cstrike\maps --------------------------------------> .bsp, .bsp.ztmp, .txt, .res
\HLServer\cstrike\sound -------------------------------------> .wav
\HLServer\cstrike\models ------------------------------------> .mdl
\HLServer\cstrike\sprites -----------------------------------> .spr
\HLServer\cstrike\gfx\env -----------------------------------> .tga
\HLServer\cstrike\overviews ---------------------------------> .bmp

As far as I know HLDS's window will show your PC's IP. If your PC is behind a router or in a network you will see an IP like this 192.168.XXX.XXX, if this is the case then you will also need to Port Forward your router if you want players from over the Internet to join your server and/or GameTracker.com to be able to scan your server.

If you see your Internet IP (you can get to know your Internet IP from www.whatismyip.com) in your HLDS's window then it means that your PC has direct access to the Internet and you just need to give your Internet IP to players along with the port and they will be able to join your server.

There is also the case when a PC has multiple IPs assigned to it, then you will need to specify which IP you want HLDS to use in the startup parameters. I will edit my Server Tutorial in future to also include Console startup and Startup Parameters. Until then you will have to visit the original tutorial (link is in my tutorial) for information on how to use the Console and Startup Parameters.
I have not tested nor used this case.

RCON Password is a password which allows complete access to your server. The full form of RCON is Remote Control. You should assign a hard and big password for this.
Remote Control of the server can be taken in-game while being connected to the server or by a Server monitoring program such as HLSW (Half-Life Server Watch) (www.hlsw.org).

Do comment if you have any further questions.

Hi edwin_kuswanto!
I would be glad to help you and clear all your doubts. If we continue to troubleshoot your server in this thread it will become very large and very difficult to read so I recommend that we post further replies on my tutorial's thread (because I am the owner of that forum and then will be able to delete them after your problem is solved):
http://www.gametracker.com/clan/Needforheadshot/forum.php?thread=72729
I have already replied to your post above in that thread.

Hi umerplz,
You should check the documentation of your router or firewall on how to forward the ports. Also check out this website:
