I've been playing on a server for a few hours and i havent been able to find a single gun or melee weapon yet only ammo food and first aid items can can anyone help me with tips for finding a weapon? Preferrably near the factory?

For the Enfields, check the barns. Just dont use around zombies cause you will attrack every zombie within 200 meters, also shotguns will do the same, we call those two guns "The zombie dinner bell". This map will help you find loot spots: http://dayzdb.com/map#5.083.086

Weaving thru bush and the low evergreen trees will help you get away from zombies. Also laying down under the evergreens, they cant hit you and will eventually leave the area.
Stay away from the coast, cherno, Electro, Starry Sabor, Novy Savor, Airfields and you will stay alive longer. There are stores in Zelengorsk, Polana, 2 in Berenzino also a hospital in Berenzino for morphine and blood.
Key things you will need is an axe, matches, knife, canteen & map, with those you can survive in the woods for months. With the axe you get firewood in the forrest & kill animals for meat. Gut it with the knife, then click on the matches to make fireplace, cook the meat. Locate ponds on your map or homes with water wells to refill you canteen there.

Thanks man i really hope this helps since i already have a knife for gutting im pretty sure im on a start by just having that hope I can find some good stuff now

get yourself a hatchet (found in many barns and small industrial buildings) and a map (common in schools, supermarkets,church, red enterable buildings) and head north.

enfields, m1911, and revolvers are found mostly in barns, houses, sheds, and industrial parks.

For all the good weapons (automatics and snipers) check airfields and marked army bases.

I've got a server on my profile that has hundreds of vehicles, weapon crates and barracks galore. It is a great place to get thrown in to the basics of the game, and its a hell of a lot of fun.
