The real problem, as im sure many people have run into, is the server's themselves. A lot of us play on private hive's because they end up being more fun, and less bandit filled. Problem is the server companys. Like say, I find a server I like, so I play it often. One day the server company goes down, server comes back up and no ones has their stuff anymore. Or this one is great, server goes down. When it comes back up, its magically got a different name and a new owner. No matter what way it goes, I can nearly guarantee any good server with less then 20 people on a constance will be gone just as you begin to enjoy it.

I know what you mean, have lost tons of gear & vehicles. I'm a pack rat when it comes to gear if you find one of my tents, you will hit a jack pot. I normally have 10 tents in my fav server.

mine is on the vilayer public hive so your gear/position will save on any vilayer server

As community cofounder and server administrator (not on DayZ but in ArmA II) i can give you advice about the problem posted in the begining of this thread.

If youre 20 people, regular DayZ players - why you all not rent one server and to never stop it? When the costs are shared by 20 ppl, the monthly cost for everyone is not so big.

You must know that the main reason servers to stop - its the founds. There are not "companyes" behind the servers in 99.999% of the cases. Those are people with will to pay run and administrate server (public one). But with the time things change and at some point they have not ability to run the server anymore.

If you dont feel that you want to run and manage server alone. Then - if there is server that you like and stuck and want to keep it online - ask the server owner, what can be done this server to stay online for long. Do he need some support of 2 euros per month or some support with the script works or whatever.

In my experience - when people like some server and when they are ready to help and cooperate - the servers stay online for long time, even the game is not so actual anymore the servers stay online.

Thats only advice ill never play DayZ or will run DayZ server, but just want to advice you to keep the servers that you like with any help of the server owners or admins.

If you want to learn how to PVP, Come to House of Jones, me and my clan there basically roam around avenging people all the time, custom forts, extra barracks, hundreds of vehicles. Great place to learn to use a gun and fly a heli.

I've experienced this more times than I can count myself. And for somebody that has been trying to achieve a 25,000 zombie kill count on one life, and has gotten to around 5-6 thousand kills Multiple times, JUST to lose it all to a downed fucking server, is VERY Frustrating. Its literally Days worth of game play and effort, ALL going straight down the fucking drain for NOTHING. This is REALLY starting to make me HATE DayZ, when the game itself would be perfect without this fucking problem. Oh and it also doesn't help when you try to join a server you've been playing for a while and all of a sudden you lose it all to a NO Reason Message telling me "You've been kicked from the game (Battleye:admin ban)" Kinda' funny cuz when I left that server there was NOBODY in it and today when I try to join when there was about 6 people IN THE SERVER, it gives me that fucking kicked message. Can Somebody Please Help.
