Hi everyone.
We have written to Valve several times already, asking them to finally change the infamous 33-player constant in the code, but they still cannot be bothered. However, Day of Defeat: Source is already running on the modern Team Fortress 2 branch of the engine, which means it essentially already supports 101 players. All that is left is to change the constant, but unfortunately, they cannot be bothered. We have contacted Eric Smith and other members of Valve multiple times. Sadly, they cannot be bothered to change literally one value in the code. So we decided to hack the game ourselves, so that a game built for 33 slots would not crash in shock when it sees the 34th, 35th, and subsequent players. We recommend that everyone take part in the experiment tomorrow, August 27, 2026: https://www.gametracker.com/games/dods/forum.php?post=514903 We will send Valve a video featuring everyone who takes part as a player, hoping that they will eventually find THREE (3) LITERALLY minutes to change the MAX_PLAYERS variable, exactly as they did for Team Fortress 2 and Half-Life 2: Deathmatch! |
