If it's a map you're trying to connect to, sometimes the best thing you can do is disconnect and restart your game.

I've noticed that on my server, sometimes when we switch maps I haven't d/led yet or I have just restarted the server on, the map will say it's loading and stagnate or it'll just sit there and not do anything at all.

You may have to d/c a couple of times. I'm not sure if there is a formal fix for this other than your computer having trouble downloading the map for the server.
