First of all, press the multiplayer option in the main menu. Then look on the top off your screen for different tabs. These are for organizing some servers. You should see a LAN-tab, a favorites tab and more. Click to the multiplayer tab, and click the refresh button in the lower right corner. This tells the client to query the master-server, and send you the available serverlist. If you do not recieve a serverlist then you may need to replace your master server file (details on how to do this on Tripwire Interactive's own forum).

If you're trying to find a specific server, there's an option for manual IP entry. Right-click anywhere in the multiplayer tab, and an option to "Join IP" or "Add IP" should appear in a drop-down list. If you click it, a window appears where you can add the specific server IP and port.

Now, assuming you're not after a specific server, and DID find some servers in the multiplayer tab, here's what you do:
Option number one: click a server of your liking, then press the "join" button in the lower right corner.
Option number two: double-click the server of your liking to connect to it.
Option Number three: right-click the server of your liking, and press "join" in the drop-down menu.
